autechre, anything starting from confield lol

honestly I used to listen to Oversteps a lot when I was working on code or max patches, sort of felt like it had enough variation to stimulate creative thought without being too jarring and pulling focus.

lately I've been listening to Gas when I want to focus on something and need a nice thick wall of sound to block out the noise of my neighbor's TV.

  2. Reniform Puls is so good. One of the best closers. Deeply emotional but in that cool, detached way. The skittering percussion sounds perfect and even when it gets more dense and complex it never overwhelms the mix; the track keeps that sort of open, airy atmosphere throughout. Also nice how it ends a bit like Nuane with a little minimal glitch loop.

  3. th red a continues to be more and more of a standout for me, and I realized part of what makes it feel special is that they so rarely do tracks in 3 or 6 time sigs (the only other one I could think of offhand is the second half of Cipater). It works so well here and it gives the track a weird sort of sea shanty vibe which fits really well with the other aquatic sounding stuff on SIGN (si00, r cazt, etc.. I get lots of oceanic images in my head with this album)

Been playing Persona 5 Royal the past few days. Got like halfway through the original (which is like 50 hours) and it's great starting over, there's so many little things they changed. Also it looks better, guess it's running at checkerboarded 4K downsampled to 2K on my monitor (with a PS4 Pro). Love the artstyle, makes me want to hang out in Shibuya ?

I just started Persona 4 Golden. it's the first game I've played in the series so I'm still getting used to it, but after the first few hours I'm really starting to enjoy it. It's interesting how your characters' friendships and psychological struggles are tied in with the RPG mechanics. And some of the Persona designs are amazing, I'm looking forward to seeing more of them

  5. Soon Over Babaluma is a great album, underrated. It's missing the eccentric brilliance of Damo Suzuki, but the music is still so good.

Lost Tapes I feel is kind of hit or miss but worth it for some exceptional tracks like this beautiful long-form version of Vitamin C which provides a nice window into their process (assuming that this was an earlier take with more raw jamming which they edited/refined to produce the single-length Vitamin C)

  6. Nice! I havent heard that live album, might have to pick it up. I love Can so much, some of the best music ever made. They've always reminded me of Autechre, the way they built tracks by editing down long-form jams. And the way their music feels casual and improvised but still really tight and precise

Thanks to Spotify at the time, I guess one of the first songs I listen to was Rpeg... That song still blows me away!  Then I just start with the basics, and now I'm a big fan, One of my fav LP are Draft 7.30 and Chiastic Slide

I distinctly remember the first time I heard Rpeg, I listened to a 30 second preview of it and thought that melody was one of the coolest things I'd ever heard and immediately bought the CD, then I kept listening to the preview clip of Rpeg over and over while I waited for it to ship. I don't think I've ever fallen for a track that quickly from just a short clip

Catharsis? It starts beautifully but it turns sounding like a loss to me, apocalyptic loss, an oblivion ...

yeah true it does have a very desolate apocalypse vibe. for me that climactic melody trying to break through is still such a huge emotional release, even though it ends up sort of defeated, dissolving back into the void

Lysergamides are certainly healthier than arylcyclohexylamines for whatever that's worth. About 2.8i and complex numbers, let me explain. A real number is something like 2.0 or 2.0001042 as opposed to a natural number which is just any positive whole number, i.e. 8. The square root of -1 is the smallest imaginary number, which is referred to as i . This number is also in general, the unit for imaginary numbers, so for instance the square root of -5 is referred to as 5i. Complex numbers take the form a + bi where a and b are nonzero  real numbers, so 2.0 + 0.8 is 2.8, times i would give you 2.8i

    small correction: the square root of -5 would be root(5)i (approx 2.24i), since root(-5) = root(-1 * 5) = root(-1) * root(5) = i * root(5)

also in the form a + bi, a and bi are not like terms and can't combine (so 2.0 + 0.8i wouldn't simplify, 2.8i written in that form would just be 0 + 2.8i)

but yeah I like the idea that pce freeze 2.8i could be referencing complex numbers. they're used in some DSP applications like the fourier transform, could be related to a patch or something. it's such a great track too, might be my favorite on the EP. Move of Ten is just delicious all around

Yeah r ess really is just the perfect intro. Takes me the fuck away.

this one is really underrated I think, it is such a great opener. I love how huge the atmosphere is, those grand sweeping tones slathered in reverb. and the beat has that funky but understated shuffle, it sounds kind of like it's trying to find its footing as it steps into the storm.
