  1. who needs janky AAA titles when there's such a wealth of great indie games out there.

this year has been all about detective/mystery games for me, playing Return of the Obra Dinn, Outer Wilds, Disco Elysium, Paradise Killer.. all amazing games with deduction and worldbuilding so cleverly blended into the gameplay.

  2. plus thread transformed into deep psychomusicological analysis, nice

on the melodically dense tracks, my ability to understand the implied harmonies and connect with the music emotionally really does grow with repeat listens. like there will be melodic phrases that feel disjointed at first, but over time I realize that they're hovering around satisfying notes in the negative space, or that they hint at a chord change that comes later in the song or something, and it becomes a more satisfying listen

  3. Disco Elysium is so good. Excellent writing, art, and music, and the characters and narrative are so well realized and memorable. For a game that seems at first so cynical it has a lot of heart too - I ended up really caring about the characters and the politics of the game world.

Now playing Paradise Killer and Wasteland 3 and they're both really good so far. Can't get enough of deduction and dystopia

One episode left and I have to agree. Some of the well-know Fargo weirdness, but too many characters to the extent that I have to check out IMDB during episodes to remember what character they are talking about.

lol yeah I agree. the show is at its best when the focus is narrower. my favorite episode this season was the one in black and white since it was a vignette focused in on just a few specific characters.

is SIGN anyone's album of the year? Pretty sure it's mine. I can't get over how good th red a is, every time I hear it I lose my mind a little bit more. So, so good!

easily. nothing else has resonated with me on such a deep level. I feel like I've had liquid Metaz form8 flowing thru my veins for the last 2 months

  6. I can't remember the last time I did anything special or interesting for xmas. In 2014 I had a cancer surgery on 12/24 and that kind of ruined the holiday season for me.. I had already become pretty disenchanted with it but since then I just plain don't like it.

However.. I do still like new year's eve. I appreciate that it's a holiday without all the religious and cultural trappings of most others, and it's just everybody getting drunk because of numbers.

  7. I love DS9, highly recommended. TNG was the only Star Trek show I watched as a kid in the 90s, but DS9 became my favorite when I watched through it on netflix recently. worth watching the whole thing imo. there are some weak filler episodes here and there but that's to be expected with any series of that era, networks forcing everyone to make 24 episodes a season was always a mistake.

  8. Obscure just started its second season - Michael Ian Black reading a book, generally one chapter per episode. like a slow burn audiobook with occasional jokes/commentary. really enjoyable show. first season he read Jude the Obscure, this season is Frankenstein

  9. yeah I've been listening to this and agree it's too focused on reviews/ratings and the album discussions can be rather nitpicky. it seems like a lot of the material is new to them too, I'd rather hear discussion from hardcore fans like myself who have spent years delving into their discography and aren't just forming first impressions. still, some interesting comments here and there and I'll consume just about any autechre related content that's out there.
