I’m surprised that there isn’t already a thread about this song. One of my favorites of his, by far. I think I came upon it a bit late, as well, but still probably 15-20 years ago. Such a perfect tune.
I own one physical release of this, on this bad boy…

Its out, some of these reworks might be better than the originals! This is great

This is excellent stuff!! Big fan of the first third and the back third. I'm sure I'm an outlier but I love alot of Clark's ambient/beatless stuff, so the later tracks are really doin' it for me.

Also major respect to André for still being the uncompromising, gonna do whatever the fuck he wants to do type of dude for putting out an album in a genre that’s probably top 5 least lucrative.

I think that's what endears me to him the most. He could've put out a bunch of albums in the hip hop lane but he didn't want to/wasn't inspired to go that route. I love that this of all routes is the one he chose to take, because it's meaningful to him. I wish more artists were this principled and chose their passion over $$.

he confirmed it's no more old school sampling for him... it's all software synths, korg plugins, and generic trap beats nowadays. he will never go back to the MPC. this is a frustrating article to read: https://www.musicradar.com/news/dj-shadow-interview

this is a better article, since he talks a lot about what he was doing back in the '90s: https://www.stereogum.com/2240398/dj-shadow-new-album-unkle-dj-hero-rare-records/interviews/weve-got-a-file-on-you/

it was a good run from him from about '94 - '03. every track he put out had a sense of soul + originality to it. once he moved away from vinyl/tape/vhs samples on an MPC to DAWs, he lost his superpower.

yeah pretty much nailed it, well said. What a run he had though. Endtroducing is timeless, an all-timer for sure.
