  1. it's likely that he was just talking about Four Tet exclusives, and not ae exclusives

    you're probably right

I only said 'indirectly' implied as he was saying he has got a copy of exai then mentioned in his twitter feed that he'll be playing some exclusives on the show, without mentioning anything else about new ae.

  2. pixelives can you give a mini-review perhaps? some small info about how it sounds or something? or maybe its just best to wait idk. up to you

I'll probably be getting something in the mail Mon/Tues.

It's up to you guys if you want me to say anything. FWIW, I'm not trying to brag or anything. I just thought you guys should know that preproduction copies are going out now. I'm just lucky to have this awesome friend who has an awesome job.

I realize that the wait it is the hardest part, but the anticipation is also kind of awesome. I'd be in the same spot if it wasn't for this scenario.

I would really, really love to hear some impressions as soon as you get the album. Don't worry about the complaints - please just share your perspectives on the new work ahead of the release. :-)

yes I would also appreciate this

  3. Eccojams, for example, is emotion through cheesy pop. It's stupid, consumer lyrics with lots of connotation but no real value, repeated a million times until it loses all meaning, leaving only a the cultural essence of what was said with no life. It's dead cultural emotions, and the nostalgia works well because the past is what has built our current culture.

    interesting analysis

by the way gmanyo, have you checked out this channel?: http://www.youtube.com/user/StergiosINred/

I think it is right up your street

  4. i find the amount of very young people on here who claim to be "depressed" at age 15 or some shit, and are given fucking drugs by doctors to treat their supposed disorder, extremely alarming. seems to be a much worse problem

stateside... i mean, for fuck's sake everyone's depressed about something at 15 - you 're fucking 15! one minute up, the next down...this is called being a teenager. the fact that normal teenagers (who love any excuse to moan and would jump onto a "depression" diagnosis like flies to a fresh turd) are being diagnosed with depression et al, rather than being told to stop moaning and go and mow the lawn, plus being given mood-altering drugs by alleged professionals is absolutely scandalous.

    profit

  5. "depression is not due to genetics"

really? I can't begin to tell you how misleading that statement is. False paradigms out the wazoo.

Of course I agree genetic propensities can play a role but they do not cause depression, it takes environmental triggers.

Both genetic and environmental triggers can come into play, it's impossible to define how much each factor weighs. The smallest thing, anything, can be a trigger if you have a strong enough genetic inclination. But a family history of depression shouldn't be seen as a predestined fate though, it's the interaction that the mind establishes between genetics and stimuli that will cause depression or other disorders.

I'd argue that in most instances, the environment has the last, controlling effect on a person's behaviour when it comes to depression and similar types of emotions. I place more emphasis on environment as it can be altered - we cannot have the same approach to genetics. Simply dwelling on genes gets us nowhere. Reconfigure you've environment as best as possible. Try and find things that are reinforcing to your behaviour. I realise this is easier said than done though.

When people speak of genetic propensities - it's important to pin down the person on what they mean. What are they saying? That someone carries a mutant gene which inhibits mood regulation? That somebody carries a higher rate of serotonin receptors than another person? Even neuroplasticity plays a dominant role in how neuronal networks are mapped out based on environmental experiences thus manipluating the 'pre-defined' neuronal paths genes might have influenced. I prefer hearing specifics but many who spout the genetic argument have trouble delivering the evidence and piecing it altogether from gene expression to the effect on behaviour. Of course genes play a role in behaviour, but a limited one at best when it comes to certain types of complex behaviours.

  7. To be fair, I find the production shitty sounding, loud or not. This is down to the VHS samples, it just doesn't sound very good to my ears. This has nothing to do with the construction of the tracks, which I find uninspired and mostly uninteresting, just the sound.

Anyone want to argue with that?

I'm not going to argue because it's pointless and all music and interpretation of it is subjective but...

It's very much a 'cut and paste', very 'raw' sounding album. I don't expect for it to be as sharp, clean and clinical like, for instance, a lot of well produced autechre, because I try and appreciate art the very way it is. An artist intends for certain elements to be the way they are - so the production style on this album is completely intended I think. It has very 'rough' qualities to it - many areas of this album sound nostalgic to me, and the best way to deliver these nostalgic elements is through production that results in sounds being a bit rough around the edges. I love this album because I haven't come across anything like this before in the way VHS Head has put all these various nostalgic elements together in a unique way.

But if you're not into it, only fools will choose to argue with your standpoint because as we all know, music is open to interpretation and music obviously touches us all in many different ways. This album definitely has some emotive qualities otherwise I personally wouldn't be interested in it.
