  1. As far as the Musou games go, and as a huge One Piece fan, I played the hell out of the One Piece Warrior games that came out the last few years (both were released on my birthdays each year!). Even if they were just the same hack and slash but with rubber pirares + a swordsman with three swords. And a skeleton that makes puns.

I could see how a Zelda one would be fun, especially if you love old Link. Not that I'll buy a Wii U for it.

  2. It IS worth it to get on it and lose that weight, though I understand the lack of motivation to do it. I was a bit porky for so many years until last xmas, when I finally did something about it and am now 16 kilos / 33 pounds lighter (the amount of weight D'onfrio put on for Full Metal Jacket!).

The bummer: most of my clothes didn't fit any more :/

  3. For folks considering The Last of Us Remastered on PS4 - Gamestop US (and EB Games in Canada) is running a promotion where you bring in your PS3 The Last of Us game as a trade-in and save 25$ off the price of TLoUR on PS4 - apparently it's a little-known offer that doesn't officially start until the 29th (probably to get suckers to buy it at full price first), and runs until August 2nd.

I was considering starting a 'you're buying a game twice and falling into their trap!' debate, but that's a pretty good deal. I shall hold off on that debate for another time.

    *reseals can of worms*

  4. Decided to check up on some stuff at my parents place, and while I was there had a quick gander at my small vinyl collection which I'm storing in the attic for the time being.

At some point, prolly my dad, someone had put them on their side. Underneath a box. Now a few records have a definite bend to them.

Thankfully, the most severe ones are records I'm not desperately bothered about--Melvins' 'Ozma' was never high on my appreciatation meter--but some are slightly wonky which happen to be ones I'm most fond of, like YMO's double red disc After Service or Technodelic, look not so flat any more.

Obviously, compared to people in other people having their entire houses bombed to shit, this is trivial. But still, somewhat saddening. Hoping they go back to normal now that they're being stored upright again.

  5. Playing Tomb Raider as I downloaded it as part of the PS Plus IGC and it's taking up 13gb of my 80gb drive. Thankfully, it turns out to be a pretty decent game! Has a strong Far Cry 3 feel to it, which is not a bad thing at all.

Also, for those in the UK, has anyone been watching the Ginx TV channel (channel 286 on Virgin)? Nothing spectacular, but it's nice to have gaming on telly, from people who actually seem to play games. The First Hour episodes are fun, even if Adam Savage is the most terrible gamer of all time.

    Adam, if you're a member here, I'm sorry...but you're a terrible gamer.

  6. Playing other open world games seems to emphasize just how much time Rockstar must have spent on their open worlds. You don't notice as much when playing GTA V, but when you load something like Saints Row and drive the cars around or do similar things, the disparity becomes glaringly obvious.

Speaking of, I love the Saints Row games, especially the last two. The graphics are a bit iffy and no. 4 was essentially the same world but with Matrix powers, but it's still incredibly fun to play. Flying around the city like Neo and climbing up all the towers was one of the most fun times I've had playing games, done with my created character of a pale goth white girl with a giant mohawk. Not to mention that the story/plot was funny and had a killer twist ending:

Jane Austen as a gang member in the next game?! Looking forward to that!

Just with better graphics next time I hope.

  7.

Short Peace, the animation collection by Katsuhiro Otomo + a batshit insane game by Suda 51.

9/10 for the whole thing, although I wonder how badly some of the CGI is going to age.

I checked the Farewell To Arms part out, some ridiculously good animation

Yeah, the part where the rocket is fired underground was pretty spectacular. And the punchline was funny too

didnt even know this existed! nice one..

if you guys havent seen them, the studio 4°C shorts dvd's are brilliant. 'genius party' and 'genius party beyond' < 'dimension bomb' on one of them is excellent

I will get around to those one day, I want to see the Masaaki Yuasa short

  8. Just finished Dead Space 3...man what a satisfying game. Might go back and play the other two, although I suspect any and most twists in them are now rendered null and void.

Now to wait to see what the next Playstation Plus update brings. Anyone else subscribed? Do you think it's value for money/rip off?

jodorowski's dune is good. 9/10. plenty of jodorowki in it, paints a clear picture of him, his work, and the story of that movie. too bad it wasn't made... but he wanted it to be 10 hours or something? seems like he sabatoged himself for some reason

And he wanted Dali in it for a cost of $1,000,000 per hour or something? Yeah, sounded fantastically nuts all round.

  11. Dizzee Rascal's 'Fix Up' + Milanese's 'Caramel Cognac' (by Milanese himself)

    [youtubehd]pGt2zbPaXRI[/youtubehd]

Meshuggah's 'Bleed' (LOVE MESHUGGAH) + Lady Gaga's 'Paparazzi' (DON'T REALLY CARE ABOUT HER)

Nine Inch Nails 'Closer' + some documentary about people having sex with animals

  12. Finally received my Sullivan's Sluggers Gn after a literal 2 and a bit year wait. Was it worth it? Hmm...it's an entertaining read but shit, not sure if it was worth that much time. Luckily, I'm patient, so it's no biggie. Unlike the hardcover book itself, which is fucking huge! Worth it for James Stokoe art. Get his Orc Stain & Wonton Soup comics if you haven't already: Wonton Soup 2 might be one of my fave books ever, just in terms of fun story and an artist having a great time making stories.

As for recently, reading What Did You Eat Yesterday 1 & 2 by Fumi Yoshinaga, published in English by Vertical, about two gay men and the meals they eat and the slice of life tales that occur in their lives, some dramatic, some comical. Fun stuff, if bad to read if you're feeling hungry.

  13. you are free from the idm man's clutches. What unattainable dream will you be pursuing now? said something about novels.

Well I've already written a novel (technically I've written two and half but only the last one is one I want to release), so I know I can do that to a certain extent, the final quality of which is up to someone else to ascertain (mainly the literary agents I have sent it to). Same with comics, I can draw those fine, if not well. But when it comes to music...I have nothing in my head I want to write. Just not my medium of expression.

Oh and it's not just IDM man I escaped from but metal man too, as I was making metal music before I moved to digital stuffs. Not that that was much good either haha. It IS fun playing metal riffs though! And headbanging at the same time!

  14. It's taken me the better part of 14 years, but I've finally given up on making music. I'm just not a musician: I'm merely a music lover who was confused.

Now, don't think I spent 14 years fruitlessly making music: the last time I was doing anything musically was probably 2006, at which point I stopped to do other things (drawing endless comics, writing novels, moshing). But recently, feeling like trying again, I got myself some software and settled in to making stuff, but...it's just not interesting. I don't have anything to say or express in music, no matter how much I open the software or doodle around with cool synths. Whether or not the results are good or not is besides the point: I just don't feel it's right for me.

I'll still potter around with sounds and stuff, maybe even casually make some simple short tracks or play my fancy pointy headstocked ESP guitar but overall, the idea of myself as a musician of any kind is no longer interesting/possible/open to me as a future endeavour. I'll leave that up to far more talented folks than myself (i.e. anyone).
