Besides @MindphaserI've seen a good bunch of people mentioning The Martyrs (the original French version) as one of the best horror movies. Haven't seen it myself though, just thought to chime in. I'm more of a late 70's/ 80's / early 90's scifi-lover guy anyway. And not straight horror per se, but if you are after some non-gore disgust, Salò is the way to go.

martyrs is a very, very heavy watch... prepare yourself! i didn't personally like it that much, not really to my taste, but it's undeniably great and well-realised

    Spoiler

you won't soon forget the flaying scene

nice to see mentions of hereditary. for sure one of the best recent horrors. endless love for toni collette. i think the pacing went wild towards the end (and the climax) which was a bit jarring. tbh the family drama was almost more disturbing than the ghastly antics... just superbly acted all-round

Horrors are mostly boring because they're so predictable. Cheesy jumpscares, fake gore CGI etc. Show me a title that would really knock my wind out, please I beg.

PS. My favourite is The Thing (1982).

you should check out lake mungo! it's more of a slow-burner and a mediation on grief rather than a straight up shocker. but it's truly disturbing and honestly still haunts me

it's shot in a faux-documentary style but there's a found footage section and jesus christ *THAT* scene will fuck you up, promise

  3. what horror/slasher films are you guys planning to watch on the run-up to halloween? any favourites? would love some recommendations or indeed just to start a comfy horror film thread

    my watchlist at the moment:

    • Halloween I, II and 2018
    • Phantasm (1979)
    • Suspiria (1987)
    • Blood and Black Lace (1964)
    • The Hills Have Eyes (1977)
    • Evil Dead I & II, plus Army of Darkness
    • Romero's early Dead anthology - Night of the Living Dead (1968), Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Day of the Dead (1985). maybe Zombi 2 (1979) too!
    • Carpenter's The Fog (1980)
    • For campy cheese factor - Chopping Mall (1986), Brain Damage (1988) and Frankenhooker (1990)

would love to marathon the Friday 13th series if i can find the time, too, but i might save it until the awesome Scream Factory box releases (includes lost gore footage!)

i started a little early and watched Re-Animator (1985) today. fucking classic! at once tense, shlocky, hilarious and even a little spooky at times, all with that lovely low-budget feel

    • Since Age Of he's certainly moved in a more indie/mainstream direction. I guess you can travel with him on the journey or not. IDM/instrumental purists will struggle with it.
    • I watched the documentary on the creation of Uncut Gems, and he does come across as a very likeable, down to earth but very talented dude.

dan is super grounded and has a great sense of humour. really happy for his success - dude deserves it!

i'd recommend checking out his RBMA interview to anyone who hasn't already. real insightful and the guy knows his stuff re. music, art and philosophy

  5. whitehouse are great, few projects set my brain on fire as effectively

most people will point you towards their "digital era", in particular Bird Seed as a starting point, but i much prefer Cruise.

to be honest, the 2016 compilation The Sound Of Being Alive is probably your best starting point, containing all """"the hits"""" (gag). but it will certainly give you a crash course in what the boys are about, and, you get all the best cuts of the Peter Sotos era releases like Mummy And Daddy without his exploitation sample collage tracks, that i'm not really a fan of.

it depends on your taste, man. if you like old-world industrial then go through their discography chronologically starting with Birthdeath Experience. that would be edifying for sure.

I'll have to check that out. I'm a massive fan of Life Metal but haven't heard the demos yet.

they were released for one day only - you might have missed your chance... unless you find them in a bush ofc

i'm digging them. but that might be because i love tape saturation and "lo-fi" recordings in general; there's less structure to the tracks and they definitely function more as sketchbooks of ideas rather than stipulated releases. but, i like that immediacy and rawness(?)

What's the official count on the Drop now. (Yes it's me lol) ...

PS... Raindrops on roses is the best so far and yeah just that

294! 293 if you dont count the reupload of blue carpet. via a user on discogs:

there were 280 tracks released on the user48736353001 / user18081971 soundcloud between 2015 and 2016.
(again, some of these were previously released with the syrobonkers interview trax)

the google doc for the user48736353001 / user18081971 soundcloud only lists 278 tracks but two of them were released in multiple versions:
