What would recently released synths do you like than ?

Does anyone here own a rare vintage piece of music making stuff comp synth delay etc?

I dont know every new synth on the market but:

Entry level: Tetra/Mopho (own it), Monologue (own it), Bass Station 2, 0-Coast. All have character and powerful pure sound. Rolands (boutiques) are mostly shit. Arturia minibrute etc are a bit weak and average, lack flexibility. Behringer are weak and thin, no character.

OB6, Prophet 12, Doepfer Quantum, Digitone, Tasty Chips GR-1 are my favorite recent high end poly.

All of this very subjective of course.

  2. FM has been of the rise recently.DX7 scores higher prices than 5 years ago.

But as for digi gear maybe but maybe not.

Seems to be that lots of VST can do what Digi hardware can do and get some of the same flavours. The same is certainly not true for analogue gear. VA isnt cutting it. If you want analogue tone you need real analogue still imo. With a real analogue you dont need to mess with parameters 30 min to get a bass you get it in 5 seconds. So the fact that you need it hardware gives it a bit of an edge. No other way to get the sound than owning the machine. Of course there is always ergonomics and hands on advantages of having a hardware digi synth and every synth is unique but i dont know if its enough to boost the market that much.

Hybrid synths tho are cool beasts. Analogue filters on digital osc are always quite interesting.

Vintage market is obviously vastly overblown and ridiculous tho.

In the end it's a rarity and fetishization thing. Every synth is unique, even VSTi and Digi and Clones and has its own tone. So if a particular synth is rare its gonna get expensive cause there is no other way to get this exact particular sound, especially in analogue and some are gonna fetishize this particular sound and will be willing to spend the money (on top of the collector factor).

    Not necessarily because its better.

303 is a good example. It's not a particularily mind blowing or flexible synth compared to a prophet 5 but its highly fetishized.

''I was in Japan when Ultravisitor had just come out. I purchased it and took a walk with that CD and my Discman. Of course, Tokyo is a big city, but the vibe there has always felt small and enclosed to me. Walking around listening to that music, the city felt huge, free and open. Due to these types of feelings, I always think of recorded music as open or closed to some degree. For example, Aphex Twin's Richard D. James Album is closed, while Classics is open; Black Sabbath’s Master Of Reality is closed, The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s is open. This experience with Ultravisitor in Tokyo was one of the most remarkable ways that music has ever altered the way I perceive my surroundings. It was as if Tokyo was somehow transformed into the feeling of open countryside. I've come to realize that this is because Ultravisitor is clearly one of the most open albums ever made. It makes the sky seem bigger.''

I so agree with Frusciante. Ultravisitor makes you feel vastness.

  7. People : ''give us innovative experimental trx Richard!!! really, AFX doesnt make edgy stuff like he use to! such a shame''

Richard: ''alright here is a bunch of crazy modular experiments''

People : ''wtf is this shit??? this is unlistenable''

    lol joke aside

This has probably the most experimental trx and sound experiments he has ever released. These short form modular snippets kinda remind me of some of the Delia Derbyshire compositions in their spirit.

I want even more of those Buchlas experiments, i would take 20mins long form ( like AE did with NTS) of this stuff. Full untamed long form AFX modular trx.

Anyone here into  paintings  drawings etc? That can tell me if there is been any art of that category released as of late that will probably be remembered in the future? Or is heavenly respected in that world.  I feel like whenever people talk about that kind of stuff they always talk about guys that are long dead.

Living painters i love (and that are all pretty famous/recognized):

    Frank Auerbach

    David Hockney

    Gerhard Richter

    Daniel Richter

    Cecily Brown

    Celia Paul

    Mark Bradford

    Anselm Kiefer

    Adrian Ghenie

    Peter Doig

    Pierre Soulages

    Tony Bevan

    John Virtue

    Paula Rego

Some famous ones only died recently: Lucian Freud, Louise Bourgeois, Leon Kossoff for example.

Autoimmune compromised people feel left behind; some might need 3 shots, some might not develop enough antibodies to fight off becoming infected at all. Now that mask and social distancing mandates are being lifted in some countries, they’ll basically have to live the rest of their lives in fear. I’m compromised myself, but to bacterial infections, not viral thankfully. ?

damn i didnt know that was the case

    that really sucks
