SAN PEDRO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An engineer deliberately ran a train off the tracks at high speed near the Port of Los Angeles in an attempt to crash into the USNS Mercy hospital ship, prosecutors say.

The Pacific Harbor Line train derailed Tuesday, running through the end of the track and crashing through barriers, finally coming to rest about 250 yards from the docked naval ship.

Federal prosecutors allege train engineer Eduardo Moreno, 44, of San Pedro intended to hit the ship, saying he thought it was "suspicious" and did not believe "the ship is what they say it's for.'"

Gee, wonder where he got that idea?

Moreno has been charged with one count of train wrecking, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.

I think we unfortunately might see millions dead in US, I really hope I'm wrong, but all signs point to complete failure of govt, and eventually the health care system.  ?

Tons of people owning guns, racism and anti-Asian prejudice aren't going to help either.

Do you live in the US?

I heard somewhere (can't remember where) that a lot of airlines are just flying ghost flights because they have to keep a certain schedule of arrivals / departures at airports to avoid fees due to contract obligations or something like that.  It's crazy that their contracts make it so that it becomes cheaper to fly empty airplanes around than just leave them on the ground and pay the fees.

Edit:  Also heard somewhere that they're re-purposing some of these would-be commercial flights to cargo.

Yeah airlines have to use their takeoff and landing slots or they lose them. Looks like FAA has finally decided to waive that through May 31:

So "reopen" the economy but add a caveat where the Governor can decide what to do?

Maybe it's him avoiding responsibility, but I imagine the state Govs would do a better job than Trump is.

    Guess we'll find out

    Wasn't that mainly a 2013 pre-Q-Anon thing?

I think the chemtrails conspiracy theory started on the Art Bell show. Art Bell was a conspiracy theory guy with a radio talk show in the United States. Goes back at least as far as the 90's.

The cellphone network knows your approximate location all the time the phone is in the network even without GPS functionality. This is basically because the network needs to know into which network cell to forward your data and calls. It doesn't matter if you have foreign or native SIM or whatever. If you are just connected to the network then the location is known.

I did not say GPS was required to track.
