I think insane physical prices is the direct result of music being essentially free via streaming these days... I was in a record shop the other day and couldn't believe Depeche Mode's latest LP on vinyl was 45.00 USD...

I dunno - the new Sigur Ros preorder is only a few more dollars for 45 minutes and 2 12" records. New Aphex is insta-buy and Im not really complaining. I was just saying that if there really is 3 EPs (I think you alluded to that) and they are all this pricing, it will be over $100 for that and that just seems like gouging to me. I also don't see that happening but Id be happier complaining about more than less lol. Either way, Im happy to have new music from him and will support without question.

  2. i’m a little to old to give a fuck about chasing qr codes and tracking down random clues. Is it fun to read about? Sure - it’s silly stuff and it’s classic watmm.

I’d say if the 3 EP rumor is true and I have to pay $37 x 3 for 45 minutes of music, I’m def gonna be annoyed. But I don’t see them doing that at this point.

At the end of the day, it’s new music from Aphex - so fuck yes - I’m happy.

flol man, there's probably 5 people stuck in a tiny sub at the bottom of the sea freaking out, trying not to breathe too hard to waste oxygen, sitting in their own poop and piss and you're at home comparing measurements to track lengths:catface:

They aren’t sitting at the bottom, man, that shit collapsed

i'm looking through this thread trying to find these. where, exactly, can i go to hear there tracks? are you talking about the 10" that came out, and is that available to buy digitally?

we're gonna need individual sticky threads for each actual release that becomes available. iirc people missed out some serious shit when SIGN/PLUS by Autechre came out in 2020, because everyone relied on a huge 100+ page thread which you had to constantly check and navigate.

navigating and enjoying those threads are at the heart of watmm, come on

My anger and fury about trying to keep up with the Tonorrows Harvest release almost ruined my marriage. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Put your big boy pants on and deal with new music from the head honcho.

  5. Went and saw his show in Brooklyn last night and he brought some serious heat. Really well done set. New stuff blended in really well and his voice sounded great live. Middle part of the show was very jammy and he spanned across some dubby drum and bass, off kilter techno and some wild crunchy hip hoppy beats. All very Clark. He was doing a lot up there. Even got to shake the man’s hand afterwards at the bar. Which was cool after listening to the dude for 23 years. Good stuff.

I didn’t take any vids aside from this because I was super into it. And I only took this one because he got out of his wheelchair for this transition. This got nasty too. Sorry for cutting it short.

    Cheers

  6. New track from their new album (coming soon) Video is bleak af and song is gorgeous. Looking forward to this album (will update title when more info is available)

    Edit:

Following its surprise digital release, Sigur Rós’ first new studio album in ten years, ÁTTA, is their most intimate and emotionally direct record to date.

Few bands cut through the noise and distractions of the world to bring you a pure elemental truth or feeling like Sigur Rós. As you hear on ÁTTA, there’s a new compulsion and drive to the band that comes with the new formation of the line up. Multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson is back in the fold – having left the band in 2012 – to join frontman Jónsi and bassist Georg Holm.

Recorded across multiple continents - in the band’s Sundlaugin studio in Iceland, the legendary Abbey Road in the UK and a number of studios in the US - ÁTTA leans heavily towards the orchestral, and touches on everything that has made Sigur Rós one of the most ambitious and acclaimed bands of recent times, with close to ten million albums sold, whilst signposting an exciting and expansive possibility for their future. ÁTTA prominently features the London Contemporary Orchestra conducted by Robert Ames, alongside brass performed by longtime Icelandic collaborators Brassgat í bala. It is mixed and co-produced by another frequent collaborator Paul Corley, alongside the band.

  7. I know I’m a broken record on every new chris clark release thread - he doesn’t stop exploring - he always pushes himself - blah blah blah. While I agree with the Thom voice sentiments already expressed, I give tons of credit for just going full tilt on what his voice is. He’s used it a lot and obviously has a knack for hooks but damn, there are a ton of vocal hooks on this and good ones at that. Have to give him props for pushing his own creativity. There’s nothing better than that than any artist can do. Looking forward to exploring this much more than anything he’s done in many many years.

The title track drum part sounds very similar to BoC's Kid For Today (which IIRC sampled one of Ringo's drum fills in Strawberry Fields Forever). Maybe an homage? Or just a coincidence? Lovely album though!

It reminds me of Gyroscope drums too. I think title track is def my fav.

Lots of Boards of Clark moments on this but it’s really enjoyable in a reference way and not a copy way. Much like the Principles of Geometry album from a few months ago.

edit: there’s also something with those huge kicks on the title track. There’s some thing with the panning and placement that it’s like they suck the air out of the room and it’s slightly disorienting. Cool as shit.
