  1. this may be a stupid question since I never owned an 808 but is RDJ using a Roland drum machine with 808 samples in it for a lot of his older tracks? The way those cymbals change pitch can't be done on an actual 808 right?

He used Roland R8. Mike Paradinas mentioned it being used serveral times in his review of Caustic Window LP. I used to own an R8 with the 808 rom card, it definetly makes sense that afx made it on his earlier tracks, ageispolis is a good example.

  2. I just want to get this message across to you BCM

Your music freekin' rocks dEWD, i really dig it. groovy, fun, intresting, sometimes emotional. all the nice idm ingredients :catsalute:

Enjoying 'Under Water Yet Again' right this minute :wang:

I finally got my vinyl today. The courier just leaned it against the door. Cool. Thank god nobody read the vinyl sized signs called Bleep, London correctly.

I was about to say that it definitely sounds different from the MP3, and that unfortunately that deep wobbling sound at 3:43 in s950 lost a bit of its power, but relistening to the MP3 now, I'm not so sure anymore.

By the way, I just peeled that sticker from the plastic packaging off and put it on the sleeve. Looks fantastic, just like it's supposed to and no sticker wasted.

That's exactly what I did. I felt proud of myself.. No sticker wasted! And man, I like the idea of the cover but it's in desperate need of a bit of color so that did the trick. Still don't know what to do with the big one. hrrmmm.

I took the sticker off, put the LP in a fresh plastic sleeve, and put the sticker on that.

  4. PAPAT4 has the second highest vote ranking in that poll thread, so i wouldn't say it gets much hate :)

Also, there's no amen break on the album! i keep reading in some reviews and comments, the mentioning of amens on Syro, where there are none.

  5. This is my first Aphex Twin release, felt the need to go all out and purchase the different formats. I received my Japanese copies today, might try and keep that CD sealed ha. God I wish I was around for the Druqks LP!

I'm waiting for a drukqs repress (Warp pretty plz with sugar on top?). I was a fan when drukqs came out, but didn't collect vinyls back then.

i heard somewhere that vinyl and web are mastered little differently. i've downloaded everything in 24 flac and it seems that vinyl is slightly less compressed. atm im listening on shit speakers to be honest, and it can be shit rip, but i like vinyl slightly better

can anyone tell me if it is true or i need to check my ears?

I'm almost positive there is zero difference in the mastering. the process of ripping a record will always have unique sonic characteristics from the components themselves.

A lot of people are complaining about the digital files being overly compressed, but I sat down and listened on my Grado SR225is and it's dynamic and expansive. Only minipops seems to be mastered really loudly.

vinyl is always mastered differently from the digital/cd version. there is a very noticeable difference in the compression between the syro vinyl and the digital files.

  7. I just did a quick side by side comparison of the syro vinyl and the 24bit wav on my sennheiser hd25 headphones (XMAS_EVET10 for this test).

The vinyl mastering feels much easier on the ears, noticably less compression compared to the WAV file.

  8. so good, also looking forward to hearing the full release of this

only just found the label, going to spend some time and $$ going through the back catalogue, anyone have any recommendations, gonna get all the Stingray stuff for sure

i'd say, get the JVDB - Silicon Siren album. it costs only 2 euros from the WéMé shop. so grab that with whatever you'll order.
