Howard Stern used that technique as well, can’t find a YouTube clip of it.

i could be wrong but i am almost sure i remember howard stern talking about how he saw the helter skelter video and talking about how he loved the technique, which then led to him using it for the show. this was so long ago but i was really into mbm by this time and just had howard on the tv in the background and i remember getting really excited to suddenly see them talking about mbm!

in less stupid and more deadly news, there were multiple broad-daylight armed robberies in the parks in my city this week. one of them occurred at the park I go to regularly, a few blocks from my house, on a day when the only reason I stayed home was because of a headache. five hours later, at what is arguably the nicest park in town, a woman got shot on her way to her car.

hate to hear this. my neighborhood is like this regularly. gunfire is daily.

  3. Crossposting from twoism dot com this is 100% true information

it's 2023. the brothers have fully grown children, 35-40yrs old now. they're taking over some of the production duties in the THS studio space. mike plays depressing flute melodies and spends months recording them back and forth between two old handheld tape recorders. he's been doing this sometimes for entire years and has spent multiple months listening to the results: nothing but fuzz. marcus is playing synths by hand, not using a sequencer. he has been playing a gorgeous, heartbreaking melodies (at night) and has been slowly fading them out. one particular melody has been fading for 11 years. it's rather difficult to hear at this point. but it is felt. tears have even been provoked by what to outsiders must sound like total silence. the BOC children are charged with keeping up the appropriate levels of dust. the studio must absolutely be drenched in dust so that all sounds are old and aged. however, too much dust is annoying. marcus has made an acoustic version of all previous BOC albums using just a drum set. including unreleased material he has now done 500 albums just doing this. michael ("mike") has discovered old tunes vols 3-312 and has released them only to a handful of friends, associates, and those affiliated with THS. one of the children has done MHTRTC "children" version. the brothers saw a 1 (one) second clip from an early 80s vhs ident/logo and have spent 2 years recreating it perfectly, not only using the exact same equipment but also recreating the entire movie itself with the same actors from the original. the brothers played all the parts for the actors who are deceased. this will never be released. there are only a handful of copies, distributed to close friends at campfires and "red moon gatherings." they have amassed an impressive library of volumes pertaining to the occult, conspiracies, and social collapse scenarios and they have made soundtracks to every single one of these books. the albums will never be released. this is just something they felt like doing. marcus made BOC versions of all the sesame street puppets and the brothers are currently recreating every single sesame street episode but with BOC music and animation done by BOC. they are presently filming season 9. these will never be released, they are done for the sole viewing pleasure of their grandchildren.

    new album forthcoming.

  4. Alco Official BOC Theory (TM)

i suspect the brothers have utilized DNA tracking technology (e.g., 23 and me) to discover further brothers who are being trained in BOC studio techniques. some of these brothers were too young at first and years were needed to raise and train them in the THS environment. the next album will feature several hitherto unknown brothers.

  5. Alco Original "True Story Series" (TM)

when this came out i was a teenager living in a suburb of chicago (united states). for a while it was only available as an import, the cd in the frosted jewel case with the secret rewind track. somehow, my friend got a hold of this before me and he revealed it one night when we were hanging out in his bedroom (not sexual). we were both really into "the chre" at this point, like deep into these brothers. so he had me put on headphones and i crouched down underneath his desk (idk why, we were always doing weird shit like this) and he played me the first track without telling me what it was. no joke but this was such a serious experience, it truly was hearing something so unlike anything i'd ever even dreamed of. instantly i knew it was autechre. but it was really next level shit. obviously they were always doing this with each release multiple times a year back then. so anyway later on we were over by the mall in this horrible area of strip malls and terrible restaurants and stuff (like Chilis or whatever) and we were sitting by this little man-made pond area between the parking lot and the road where cars were flying by at like 65mph. we had just stolen some john coltrane cds from the nearby cd store, the name of which escapes me but it's on the tip of my tongue here. it wasn't Crow's Nest or Sam Goody but something kinda similar chain. anyway, my friend says if i jump into the water fully clothed and swim to the other side he will give me the ep7 cd. surprisingly, i did NOT do it. the two of us were always doing dumb stuff like this and i had previously even swam a lap in our school swimming pool fully clothed in a suit and tie in the middle of a swim class. but here i hesitated. i look back on this decision with regret even to this day. shortly after, the domestic version hit the local stores (thanks trent!) and i got a copy from best buy. it did not have the frosted case nor the hidden track. for years i was haunted by my failure to rise to the challenge and obtain the coveted Import Version.

*i remembered the cd store: Coconuts!

I asked GPT 4 about it and this is what it thinks:

Feeding a machine a large amount of data from the internet does not inherently produce intelligence, autonomy, or consciousness. Instead, it is the process of training the machine learning model on this data, using sophisticated algorithms, that enables it to learn patterns and generate responses resembling human-like behavior. While these models, such as ChatGPT, may exhibit intelligent behavior, they are not truly autonomous or conscious.

When we say a machine can "do anything in the domain of information," we mean that it has the ability to process, analyze, and manipulate various types of data to perform tasks or make decisions. This ability is limited by the quality and range of data the model has been trained on, as well as the model's architecture and capabilities.

Referring to something like ChatGPT as a "brain" can be a metaphorical way of describing its function, as it processes information and generates responses in a manner that may be reminiscent of human cognitive processes. However, it is important to note that this terminology can be misleading. While a model like ChatGPT can exhibit intelligent behavior, it does not possess true consciousness or self-awareness, and its functioning is fundamentally different from that of a human brain. As a result, it may be more appropriate to use terms like "model" or "algorithm" to describe these systems.

There sadly isn't much more to this little story (or maybe I've forgotten the saltier bits since): Tim Hecker (the human) essentially sent a cease-and-desist to the owner of Tim Hecker (the cat) to stop using his name. Tim Hecker (the cat) was pretty chill about it.

I don't believe this would've been an issue if the cat was named Florian Hecker.

if this moves to trial i offer my legal assistance pro bono

  9. idk man, i think it's been years since the heckman has done something really good. to me his work has become a lot more sterile over time, just kind of...bland.

an example of this from the newest album is "winter cop." just comes across as really flat, bloodless, generic. something that came to mind while i listened is BOC's "sundown." obviously similar basic deal - some cool cords with big verb. the boc track is so evocative, it draws you in, envelopes you. the chord choices are very cool and provoke unique emotional contours. the synth patch is so well done.

in contrast the hecker just...sits there. it feels superficial, does not go beyond. it feels like soundtrack music, but not in a good way.
