The Pendant album, the Loidis EP and one compilation track as Autobouncer620 are all he's released in five years. Where you at Brian?

    byron, pls

in addition to the stuff you mentiond, he's been running west mineral label, appeared on a few group releases (ghostride the drift and critical amnesia, neither of which i was a huge fan of), and done some dj/live events (had a sick set for a c- virtual party thing earlier this year).  so he's been consistently active. i would assume more releases are on the way

^An instrumentals focused tribute radio show.  They dabble in madlib instrumentals tho which is a bit off topic imo.

There was a better doom tribute show that aired yesterday on nts with more raps.  It was from 'Outside Insight Hour'.  Hasn't yet showed up on the nts archive but ill post it when it does

    King Krule - Cellular

Fff, that was this year?  Feels like forever ago I remember watching that video in bed and being stoked on it.  2020 messing with my sense of time.

Alone, Omen 3 I would nominate as one of my fav tracks of the year.  Its a concise earworm that I was playing on repeat a lot at the start of the quarantine

  4. Nice thread idea but boo @ spotify links.  If you dont have an account they either give you a tiny crap sample, or in my case dont play because "not available in your country"

Most memorable for me would have to be some autechre.. particularly the SIGN livestream.  I love the opening tracks on both albums..

I heard the news of his passing on new years but it did not start to sink in until the day after. I went on a walk and listened to Madvillainy got home and watched the redbull interview again almost teared up at his closing remarks.

I got into Hip Hop because my older brother listened to it all classic 90s stuff. He had a bunch of great CDs and I got so into the Infamous and It Was Written and other classics, he was cool with me using them whenever he was not home and we had a boombox with a CD player and tape deck on it so I could make tapes of all his stuff and listen whenever which I did with Operation Doomsday. Just fell in love with that album. I was probably the only kid in school whose hero was a supervillain haha.

For some reason some of his simple rhymes are my favorite and this one will be burned in my mind forever

The flow is at pedal pace steady like tricycles
Beware all suckas is froze like icicles

Gas Drawls is probably my favorite song from him but he has so much awesome music so gifted from the booth to the boards as they say.

    RIP MF DOOM

    Compliments of the town jeweler

thx for the stories.  Regarding your first sentence, I can relate that it is sinking in rather slowly.  Him being the character MF DOOM has always made him seem distant, but now that his passing is sinking in I find myself imagining Daniel the person writing the words and they are hitting me differently..

His rhymes have that rare combination of talent and passion.  They have that wtf factor where when you read them its like 'how could anybody even think to put those words together?!'

Pour the wine, whore to grind, quarter to nine, let's go
Ever since ten eleven, glad she made a brethren
Then it's last down, seven alligator seven, at the gates of heaven
Knocking, no answer, slow dancer, hopeless romancer, dopest flow stanzas
Yes, no? Villain, Metal face to Destro
Guess so, still incredible in escrow
Just say Ho! I'll test the yayo
Wild West style fest, y'all best to lay low
Hey bro, Day Glo, set the bet, pay dough
Before the cheddar get away, best to get Maaco

A mod merged my tribute thread with a 2010 thread, I guess thats cool> But I hope people keep it going and dont get confused by the title if they weren't aware of his real name. (Maybe add MF DOOM to the title since its his most known alias)

I believe these are the first appearances of Doom and KMD, correct?

Those are simultaneously pretty terrible but also endearing.. so of-the-time.  I didnt catch any doom verses- did he do production or something?  Because the KMD i've heard he is rapping

  7. RIP Daniel Dumile, in 2020 we lost a true legend.

Besides his absolutely insane rhymes and poetry, he was also a fantastic producer.  I was just listening to this album a week before I heard his passing, and was blown away when I remembered that he did all the production on it.  Hits you with so many samples it shows his attention to detail, and passion poured into his productions.

Another quick story, in my college radio-dj days, Operation Doomsday was my go-to track when I didnt know what to play next.  I knew exactly where that CD was located in the stacks, and played it at least once every few shows.  Another DOOM production.. so smooth that it can transition in or out of any other mood with ease.  A perfect track IMO.

    I'll post more later, but

*Just remember ALL CAPS when you spell the man's name*

  8. IMO all 4 albums from Good Kid>Damn are excellent, but I enjoy DAMN the most because its lighter on the storytelling elements.  He's wicked good at that side of things, but this album is my favorite to just smack on and enjoy the flow from track to track.

Definitely some elements of his albums that are quite 'conventional' (especially when guests feature) and can feel like a guilty pleasure to listen to, but 90% of it is just really great music.

  9. I had the realization a while back that thai and mexican cuisine share a lot of similarities (mostly just due to being in the tropics). Spicy chiles, fresh veg, lime. Obviously different in even more ways (thai chiles are generally even more spicy) but my point is you can get 90% of the tropical vegetable ingredients cheap from markets here and then the specific stuff like fish sauces are also easily found in asian markets.

I have yet to fully exploit this realization into making dank thai food all the time at home (if you can't already tell I love thai food as well as mexican food) but the couple of dishes I tried turned out fantastic (papaya salad, pad thai)

Lets not forget that one of the musical highlights was Nightmail, which totally blew me away when I recognized it - Richa often plays a track related to the location he's in   - did you know that? - so the Post Office got this one. I've just got a copy of the exclusive Printworks 2019 vinyl that has this track, as a xmas pressy to myself  so I'm very chuffed that it ties in with the 4th anniversary

lol i never realized that connection, richard always a few steps ahead.  he seems fond of that track, has played it out a couple times iirc.  but dfn was the first
