  1. Travolta GIF by memecandy

    me confused.

in summary the 'game changing project' is a max plugin. and then there was a gold coin aphex logo jpg.  and then people have been throwing the april 14 date around, suggesting potential drukqs reissue (or new music or who knows).  Am I missing anything?

Dude you nailed it here!  I dig the organ groove, and even hear elements of other portugese dance music in the percussion. But like a great dish, you have a great sense of balancing (not over-spicing the mix) while making it your own

  3.  @drillkicker; i think @Ivan Oozewas referencing that your first music video takes place on the festival of santa muerte (specifically in barrio Tepito de la Ciudad de Mexico, which is sort of a notorious neighborhood).  These sort of 'unsanctioned saints' (in this case the saint death, whose representation is a skeleton version of the Virgin Mary, who is the most sacred saint in Mexican catholicism) often become popular and take on a cult or folk-like following.  For instance in parts of Mexico where narcos have a large presence, certain drug lords who gave back to the community became like saints to the local population and take on a robin-hood like status represented through imagery and 'corridos'.  Anyways, i digress.

The genre name 'cumbia psicodelica', I believed has only been coined recently, but often refers to the the Chicha genre, music of Peru in the 60's and early 70s.  The compilation Roots of Chica (vol 1 and 2) was key in helping the music gain popularity to non latin american countries.  The tracks were always popular in latin america tho, for example many of the cumbias (cumbia generally referring to any music you dance to, btw) and quinceanera classics that Mexicans know from the 90's are actually covers of those Peruvian songs.

I appreciate the links to contemporary / new bands offering their take on cumbia psicodelica.  Its such compelling music that works in so many contexts.  That combination of laid back / fuzzed out melodies with a grounded and groovy rhythm section.

  4. is it wierd that the first thing i was excited for was 'what black and white image will he put on the cover this time'? it doesnt disappoint tho, lush image

track is really nice. stott is consistently fresh.  Too Many Voices is probably my favorite lp of his, and the preview track sounds like it picks up on that vein rather than It Should Be Us

gurgling sound? Grindcore? eh do we listen to the same track?

it sounds like a toilet bowl gargling at various points between 3-5 mins to me.  and i dont remember exactly which metal bands or genres sean played from the radio streams, but they had similar levels of gutteral gargling vocals.

I realy love the latter half of the track when it transitions and explores different timbres, so yeah its just and odd one for me overall.  Also @Lianne I agree with your syro comparison, the driving kick-snare feels has a similar vibe for me

So I guess you all genuinely enjoy that noise in the first 3 mins of the track?

i actually dont mind those high frequencies that I assume youre referring to. gonk steady one has similar harshness going on for much longer.

but its actually the gurgling sound after 3+ mins that bothers me in X4.  they sound like a tribute to grindcore / gutteral vocals (of which sean played some on the marathon dj streams)

so yeah.. x4 is a weird track, i like some aspects but cant get into others

  7. Based on pure titles.. im kinda excited to hear

    ░G░a░l░a░h░a░d░

and also Amigo (amiga acid friendship choon, one could assume)

Waltzacid has had me dancing every time I have put it on so far.  Is this the first time he's used that sort of 2-step break?? (not sure what its called..)

  8. Announced on 3/03 like a boss, Ceephax in the plaaaace.  Waltzacid is my fav preview so far.

The vinyl is a bit pricey but i'll certainly buy the digitals.  Cool that the vinyl crowdfund is already 132% funded and counting, mere hours after he announced it.

    Also glorious amiga album art

  9. What I still don't understand is, is there no mechanism to verify the 'creator'? (god l hate that word now, especially after Mr. Ek Spotifry used it to cover all musicians)

Like memes get 'stolen' and reposted all the time, but it's no big deal because people aren't generally selling them. And for instance, anybody could gather and claim to own the fine posting history of Alco. Would his only recourse be just the assumption that someone else would pay more if the seller is verified as the original?

ctrl-f interstella 5555 not found wtf?!

It's cool and I'm glad it exists.. but Discovery is a better album than the animation is as accompaniment, if that makes sense. I saw it years later tho so my idea of Discovery is less tied to it than some maybe.

Electroma however is an awesome homage to visual imagery that inspired them. It's basically their take on that watmm thread 'Eyecandy movies that won't break your brain' and I love it for that.
