Relapse giving some things to look forward to...
-
I've been on vacation the last 9 days and now have to go back to training at the new job on a Wednesday... (new job's not so bad though)
-
I have to spend 9 hours driving to my wife's family tomorrow with her and my 19 y.o. sister-in-law... She's been living with us while she goes to school, but ffs idk if I can handle the confines of a car with her for that long... we tend to avoid each other around the apartment.

Watched Overlord for $3 at the discount theatre on Saturday, it was good but not great... I was hoping it would lean a bit more towards action and nazi-zombies en masse than the suspense/horror angle it kinda went for, it seemed undecided of what genre it wanted to be at times. But, despite that for what it was it was a fun watch. Can't complain too much for $3

Metal Injection reminded me of these guys, who I can't believe are still a thing, they're going out on another tour and apparently the debut is 20 years old now:
I remember kinda digging the first album and being bored with the second and realized these guys were going to continue to write the exact same song over and over and over... then they became that band that wrote songs for the soundtracks of movies starring The Rock and Navy recruitment commercials.
Which also makes me come to think about Disturbed, can't believe those guys have such a strong following still, IMO they sucked from the beginning. Their vocalist is fucking godawful. As for Clutch, I always thought of them as a bit too sludgey/grungy to fit into nu-metal. Haven't heard anything of thiers in years but I guess the one they put out this year is supposed to be decent.

Seeing these year end lists coming out lately there's a lot of shit that slipped under my radar this year, gonna have to go through some this winter... -
Yeah seems like an odd pairing but I suppose they're both somewhat noisy... might be some interesting crowd overlap.

Watched Hereditary this afternoon... That's 2 hours I'll never get back.
Painfully slow and never dives into any of the many plot points that it decides to skim. The ending seemed rushed in and barely related to anything, not to mention I figued out grandma was a wtich from the not so subtle hinting in the beginning scenes of the movie. What a waste, The Witch did the slow tension thing FAR better without resorting to glacial pacing and with a much better payoff. Not sure why this movie got so much praise amongst critics.
Waste of time, don't bother. -

Tried the beta for Red Dead Online; it kinda sucks... the progression seems MUCH slower/more grindy online, the economy seems favored towards microtransactions and pay-to-win, and overall it just felt a lot less immersive compared to the single player (damn kids running around shooting at everything)... I don't see myself playing online much.
Fortunately, I bought it for the single player which is fantastic, and I'm still enjoying my slow progression through the story as Arthur. -

My iPod touch is really old (1st gen) so i can't use some apps i'd like to, angry birds is slow, and the battery is starting to die.
My cousin who works at Apple HQ in CA mentioned while visiting over Thanksgiving that there is a new generation of iPods said to be in early development stages, it'll probably be a couple years but 500GB-1TB ipods are a possibility in the near future.

I might be nitpicking but I read somewhere it's actually fake hdr. Like nier automata on the xboxBought a 4k TV today, my vidja has never looked better. RDR2 never looked bad before, but damn is it beautiful in the HDR.
I read about it as well and listened to someone talk about it on a podcast, and my response is... does it matter? It's still the most gorgeous looking game ever made.
Either way, the jump to 4k on my TV and the extra rendering makes it look damn good, the lighting effects seem more realistic, especially noticable on the sunrays through trees and around buildings.
Also jumped off RDR2 to give Soul Calibur 6 a try, pretty fun... the Libra of Soul mode has a similar feel to Weapons Master mode of SC2, which'll give it lots of longevity.

There's a lot of good things to look forward to on that list...
Full of Hell
Monolord
Gatecreeper
Toxic Holocaust
Inter Arma
Pinkish Black
are probably the ones that got me most hyped, but the others on there should be solid as well... Relapse has always been a staple metal label, but in recent years I feel like they've really stepped forward even more.
