A brand spanking new solo LP by myself featuring dark and grimy ambience found down an dimly lit alleyway. 7 tracks of dark ambience from minimal musique concrete, to noise, to drone and ambient techno. Dark ambient tracks made for listening to in the dark with headphones. A couple of the tracks have featured here before albeit slightly different versions, but other than that its all new.

I hope it gets downloaded more than the 34 EP, that one seemed to die a really quiet death....

I am really enjoying this. Extract 2 makes me feel like im in the middle of a great swarm of insects. I can already tell that im going to be playing this frequently before I go to bed. For what it is, this is a top release.

I've listened to it once so far...

I have to admit that I am much more into pretty ambient than dark ambient but I gave it a go anyway.

My main thought is... jeez that was a lot to get through. I might be in impatient mood lately cos I've been working on a really really fast paced song, so my head is kinda in that space.... but this felt more like 2 hours.

There are some really nice textures... but a lot of it feels like territory you've covered before, and I think you have potential to do some more unique sounds (as evident in Extract 2 here, and in that other track you posted recently). I would have liked a bit more variation too. At first I thought it would be quite varied, but the last 4 tracks sound a bit too similar to each other I think.

I like that you've kept these tracks really long. I've realised recently that for ambient to work REALLY well, the songs have to be very long, 8 minutes AT LEAST, preferably much longer. You just can't get lost in it if it's any shorter than that.

Cheers for downloading folks and cheers for the write up Springy.

To answer some of your much appreciated criticisms.

Yeah I guess it really is quite a challenge to sit through in one sitting especially with the 28min track in the middle. It was something I was playing with in the album sort of trying to create a sort of claustrophobic atmosphere and like a sort of institutional-esque vibe as if you're going a little mad (sort of that intense feeling you have in the middle of the night if you've ever had feverish dreams and reality and dreams become insanely twisted together). I think mastering the album onto VHS helped that in a way, that was another experiment I tried with the release. Originally I was going to have it all as 1 track as the tracks were meant to be as one long piece (I guess hence your criticism that the last 4 tracks seemed quite similar to each other, Did you hear the 34 EP (link in my signature), that might be a little more styled as you might like ). Extract 2 is also my personal highlight section of the release and was produced quite a bit differently from normal but I also liked the challenge of doing those piano bits too. As I'm quite new to drone composition (the only other stuff that was similar was the bonus CD on our last release) this definitely was more of an experiment than normal.

Sorry for all my ramblin', hopefully this might give you a little more insight into what I was going for !

Pete.

OMG I had the most INSANE crazy feverish night a few weeks ago, with the whole not being able to tell what was dream and what was reality, I couldn't even tell if I was human half the time... it was absolutely horrible at the time but thinking about it afterwards I was like "woah, that was awesome". I can see why you'd wanna capture that feeling... I instantly wanted to animate my dream/experience but 1) I knew I wouldn't be able to capture just how terrifying and frustrating it was and 2) animating takes too long :P

As for comparing to your other work...

I have to admit I didn't really like 34 very much. I think this album works a bit better, even if there are some things I didn't like. I LOVE that bonus disc from the last album. Although the songs were very short, they melded together really well and in the end it sounds more like one big constantly morphing song.

I really really like AU, I listen to the 24 minute version heaps. From a textural standpoint, it's not exactly revolutionary but it's melody is just so incredibly beautiful, I never get sick of it.

I think what would make an awesome album would be something like a 20 minute Extract 2, a 20 minute Budda Loop, and a 20 minute AU. I'm not saying you should do that of course, but somehting LIKE that would be cool...

Anyway... I will listen to this album more, I might change my mind about it, I may grow to like it more cos there's certainly a lot to like, I just don't 'love it' as much as some of your other stuff...
