While I would prefer to play Zelda II: the Adventure of Link in the original Klingon, a full translation of the Nintendo classic in Latin can do in a pinch.

The fan translation, dubbed Zelda II: Expeditio Linci, was created by ROM hacker "abw," a fan of the dead language who's also tackling The Legend of Zelda and the much more dialog-rich Final Fantasy IV. This is a man who has his priorities straight.

The ROM patch, should you want your own personal screen shot of villager Error uttering "Errator sum." is available at the link below.

Fail on account that the name "Link" wouldn't be translated into Latin, as it's a name, right?

The letter K wasn't used very often in Latin. It was only used in a small number of loanwords such as "Kalendae", so most of the time the letter C was used.

when ocarina of time came out, i became obsessed with finding the triforce. i went online to look for answers and i found out there were other people obsessing about it too. this lead me to believe there was some secret in the game. so did other people. so people would post shit online like, ok, you need to start the game over, walk to this certain bush, then talk to this guy, but dont this and that until this and blah blah and people were fucking wasting countless days following this wild goose chase of a triforce, and i was one of them. it affected me pretty hard actually. after i beat the game, i spent a good couple months trying to find the triforce, but alas, i failed. its kind of the tuss of the zelda world. i swear it fucked me up though. i was never obsessed about anything until this game came out, and since then ive never really been normal and im neurotic and obsess over stupid ass shit. i think the government placed subliminal messages in the game that has a lasting effect on certain individuals, which would explain the games awesomeness and populairty, it was govt funded. ill probably wake up one day and buy and gun and try to shoot obama. i swear though that they put the triforce in that game and nobody has found it yet

No, what I meant is that Link being a name, wouldn't be translated - just like if you and I were speaking Spanish, I wouldn't translate your name "Squee" into Spanish (as there really isn't a word to describe it anyways), I'd refer to you as "Squee" or if you name was "Bob", I would call you "Bob" and not "Roberto" or the Spanish equivalent.

My son beat that game in two weeks when he was around 8 or 9. And yes, he found the Triforce.

That's what I was thinking. Or maybe "Linci" just sounds more Latin than "Link". Or something...I don't know...

i don't think it's that unusual to translate names.

Yeah, now that I think of it... the Latin way of saying "Paul" is "Paulus", so I actually DO think they change some names in Latin.

Well, hell - My son beat the game, not me, and that was quite some time ago - you expect me to find the right video on my first quick look?

Windwaker was better anyways.

Oh hai guyz I did a bit of Latin at school.

Latin doesn't quite work the way english does. The 'i' at the end of Link is the substitute for the word 'of'. Latin doesnt have words like that, instead uses grammatical cases to say how the word is being used.

The suffix for the genitive case (which is used for things that belong to something else i.e the expedition of Link) of a second declension Proper noun (which is what Link would be) is '-i', hence Linci.

And yeah Squee's right about the C/K thing.

Thats the only time Latin has ever been of any practical use. I guess it's kind of impressive to know but really it was a waste of a year.
