Music Recommendations Please

I want some new music. Here is a brief list of the kind of things I think I would enjoy:

  • Awesome old-school big beat/jungle stuff ala Fat of the Land era Prodigy, Hybrid's first two albums, and Meat Beat Manifesto's older stuff.
  • IDM that has great melody and beats not too much wankery, ala LFO - Sheath and Jega - Geometry. Not interested in stuff that approaches Draft 7.30 territory.
  • Stuff that sounds like Photek's Modus Operandi and Form & Function.
  • Anything that's as awesome as 65 Days of Static.
  • Good techno with female vocals. Something like Orbital used to do on 3 or 4 tracks out of every album.
  • Good hip-hop that isn't about killing your colleagues or superiority complexes.
  • Stuff that sounds like Analord 8.
  • Stuff that sounds like Ulrich Schnauss and Royksopp. Very straightforward, unassuming techno with awesome melodies.
  • Fucking awesome piano and string quartet music. It can be piano, string quartet, or piano and string quartet. Preferably original stuff, not covers of pop or AFX songs.
  • Cool tabla music.

Recommend anything you think I might like. Even stuff that doesn't apply to the above list at all. I spent the last 3 years playing video games nonstop and haven't kept up with anything save 2 or 3 artists, so there is likely obvious material that's passing me by on account of self-imposed obliviousness. Go, you music enthusiasts, go!

Please check out Amon Amarth. Try 'With Oden On Our Side'.

It's viking metal. but holy fuck if it isn't catchy as fuck and great pump up music for any occasion.

Just try it. You don't have to like it.

Ah yes! I forgot about RJD2. He's from around here too, I think. Snagging that and Donuts.

That reminds me now to grab the first two DJ Shadow albums.

[edit] Essiness - I will look into it with an open mind but I'm pretty sure I'll hate it.

yes! add györgy ligeti's string quartet to that, it's wikid!!

as it is very innovative, but still quite accessible, somewhat reminescent of bartók

Kool Keith-Good hip hop, Rap?

Dr Octagon-Good hip hop, Rap?

Fun Lovin' Criminals-Can't put one of your categories to this one, but they are well worth a listen.

Public Enemy?

Third World?

I have no idea what categories to put the above three into but I tried what I thought

Good stuff, will be checking all this out. :ok:

Haven't really heard of any of it. Except maybe Kool Keith, wasn't he the MC in Diesel Power?

Not a clue mate, was listening to it round LUDD's one night about 5 years ago and just asked who it was, been listening ever since, not heard any new stuff though (if hes even done any).

Fuckin' A Blicero. That stuff is right up my alley, especially Lusine. Already have 1983, but it's a great album. Big ups for using the mp3 player too.

No prob. This thread seemed to beg for it.

if you haven't listened to the EAP releases by EOD, impakt and FAH, stop what you're doing and go find them now. i don't know if the download page is still up because i forgot the URL, but if i remember correctly kaen was hosting them for quite some time. if you like the analord stuff, you can't go wrong with these tracks. there are some seriously epic tunes.
