people were howling with laughter at that trailer when i saw star trek.

it just makes no sense to me to take a franchise everyone from a certain age group remember with vivid detail and then rape the shit out of it to make every single character besides snake eyes (and he even looks pretty retarded) even remotely resemble the cartoon. I mean shit at least have a guy with a metal face i mean how hard would that be? christ

after having more appreciation with this star trek reboot i can say with confidence that JJ abrahms managed to PROPERLY bring back an old francise unlike a lot of other people.

well it makes no sense but i can guarantee you it will make money. it's like getting really pumped and sitting down and masturbating to some overweight milf porn, then looking around and just thinking "this used to be fun" and then you just wander out of your room tired and confused.

have been meaning to give star trek a chance but never got around to seeing a full episode/movie. watched this last night and really enjoyed it :) i know this a reboot and probably really different to the original stuff, but im gonna get around to watching the original series and giving it a chance now.

The shakey cam cgi was really impressive in star trek on a few scenes and you might be right that it was a technique borrowed from B-star galact

Firefly dawg...

ah. ah. but what about the kirk being lectured after being beat up in bar scene. the camera was fidgeting about all over the place and it wasnt even an action scene or anything. the shaky cam in that scene kinda pissed me off..

holy shit, there was a guy few seats to the right of me that was really getting into it. kind of annoying but at the same time it made me laugh a few times. like, at the effects and random shit like that you'd just hear him gasp or utter "awesome". and when spock did the \/ dealie, he actually put his hand up in response. the film had a few references to the previous stuff that he laughed at and would explain to his friend. just in general, he was really getting into the film.

i kind of wanted to tell him to shut up but a. it just wasn't gonna happen and b. can you even do that? tell someone to shut up despite them only whispering stuff. its not like he was being rude.

hmm!

there was some guy a few rows back from me who would utter one of four expressions every time a scene changed. if something bad happened, like nero appears, he would go "uh oh". if someone got told, like when pike dares kirk to join starfleet, he'd go "nice". if cool shit happened (most of the movie) he'd literally go "woooooow". and then if someone said a thought provoking line, he'd go "hmmmmmmm". he did this at an audible volume over a crowd and sound effects, so people started to echo him and then by the end of the movie there'd just be a chorus of "uh oh nice wooooow" spreading over the theater.

Destro does get the metal face, but they even changed that storyline, and Cobra Commander looks pretty bad from what i've seen on blogs. no KKK hood? come on!

haha! that's hilarious. before seeing star trek, i decided i really wanted to loudly go WOAH! at some random special effect. surely enough it didnt happen :P i think loudly going "hmm!" at thought provoking lines might be funnier anyway.

i should've just gone with "that gotta hurt" during the dad's death scene at the start of the film..

i really liked it.

but what's with all the shaky cam quick shots during action scenes? you can hardly see what's going on, especially with the CGI madness. like in the space battles, there's ton of debris and then like 20 photon torpedoes are flying through the air with the phasers going simultaneously, all while the camera is shaking around like a motherfucker, and you're scanning through all this shit trying to find the important information, like which ship is getting blown up and how badly, and it just looks like a fucking mess.

same goes with the fisticuffs. lots of cuts and shaking and tight shots, so that you can see who's getting rocked and maybe (if your eye is sharp) with what sort of limb or weapon they're getting rocked, but you can't actually see specifically how or where they're getting rocked, like the simple physics of it.

it seems like this is the trend with action movies. who started that shit?

am i just getting old? i hope it's just a fad, and that it's not me getting old. because that would fucking suck if i started saying shit like "the movies back in my days didn't have all this flash and noise! they were real movies like movies should be! and with real men, not these pouty pretty boys!"

it seems lazy. a cheap way to make things seem visceral and kinetic.

To be honest I had no problem understanding the fast pace shake n bake action scenes.

One of the only movies that I've had problems understanding the action scenes is batman begins, they zoomed in soo tight and threw the camera around, couldnt tell if someone was getting punched in the temple or the ankle.

i would have gone with "eh i'd still do her" after Spock's mom bit the big cock in the sky.

finally saw it last night. i'm neither a hater of star trek or a trekkie. i've seen a few films and a few series maybe.

the way they side stepped to an alternate timeline is very clever. they can do whatever they like now. iffy but clever.

chekov was in T4 too

all the "impressions" were good. i'd have prefered a new crew but this is 2009 and we know there is noone who could create a new idea so thats fine. they did a good job recreating them.

simon pegg seemed out of place. like he was in a different film

certainly looking forward to more movies.

role play tonight, i'm kirk and i'm painting my wife green, just need to find an uhura

there was a little too much old spock i think. one scene would be enough.

shame they couldnt think of a way to bring the rest of the surviving original cast back for one scene. maybe they'll bring one back per movie?

i always like midnight showings for shit like this....i know everyone paid a bucket load to have the theater experience but its fun when the collective enjoy the movie together
