for the past 3 months ive quite joyfully watched 5 seasons of the wire, just before bed, usually watching 3 episodes a night or so, i've laughed, ive cried, ive been thrilled by the magnus opus of The Wire.

but now, i only have 3 more episodes left in series 5.

what even comes close to the wire? i need somethign which will replace my nightly 'hbo' series, if that what you can call it.

ive been so into the wire, i just dont think anything can replace it. so i may have to watch it all over again. unless there is somthing worth getting which is 5+ seasons long.

help me watmm your my only hope.

i'm the same with battlestar right now except i'm only on season 2. 3 episodes a night is my limit. "what will occupy my brain when this finishes? i'll have to face my real life... "

i somehow (the wife) managed to watch 4 seasons of the wire and never finish the show.

It's completely different but I quite enjoyed Six Feet Under as a replacement, I'm just about to start work on Battlestar Galactica.

You have 3 choices

1. Twin Peaks

2. The Kingdom / Riget

3. Stop watching TV and make an acid album about the Wire

*keen to hear "Bunk Acid"*

I just watch season one of Twin Peaks every week and cry myself to sleep on Sunday

this

If you haven't seen twin peaks, definately give it a try. Not really a comedy more of a drama/crime/psychological thriller but there is a good amount of comic relief done in typical David Lynch super-bizarre fashion i.e. the log lady who carries around a log that she talks to.

I paced myself with the wire. Like a smart person. Then its like being reunited with old friends.

maybe I'll get ripped apart here but whats the wire? Never seen it, and only heard the name referenced so I have no idea. I'm going to go read up on it now.

seriosuly. watch it all! you can get the entire dvd box set for about £98 it lives up to any hype it gets and more!

word.

also check out Arrested Development if you haven't.

Really hilarious comedy, only 3 seasons so its not a huge commitment, and the drama/character interaction/story arch is incredibly complex and fantastically written leaving you with a cliffhanger of some sort after each episode.

also, there's David Cross, which is a total selling point on its own

Sopranos is the answer.

Im not going to get into the whole Wire vs Sopranos debate, but in my opinion Sopranos is still superior.
