i was bored and thought i'd make a facebook profile for mitch murder.

i've never used facebook before, and at first it seemed easy enough, but right now i just wanna punch my cat in the fucking face.

for some reason i've got two separate profiles right now, one for mitch murder and one for me, i didn't even want one for myself, i just want a simple profile for my music (as if myspace and virb weren't enough), and right now i don't know how to get back to the mitch murder one because i don't have the url.

do people even use facebook for finding music?

to hell with it, im going home.

Facebook is an abomination - just like all of the other public and social networking sites. I've never seen such a load of counter-intuitive, convoluted, non-user-friendly, hap hazzard, slapped together crap as Facebook, MySpace, Stickam, YouTube, Flickr, et. al.

I guess it's true that you get what you pay for.

Anyway - Facebook profiles must be setup for actual people, not artists, bands or other entities. To have a band "page" on Facebook it must be a secondary item attached to your main personal profile. And... until you have at least 1000 "fans" the URL to your band page will contain a long string of cryptic numbers.

You also need to be careful of add-ons or other apps that if installed, will hook into your profile, share your settings and probably be a major pain to delete.

Absolutely ridiculous! (Also, I've noticed the Flash ads are creeping into Facebook more and more, oh no... another MySpace in the making!)

Having said all of this, if you can get to your personal profile you should see the tab "my pages" - that should take you to your band page.

Good luck!

myspace is really gross

myspace is like dick cheese and crabs, facebook is like a curable std that you haven't gotten rid of yet

i've found lots of nice artists using myspace, it is a useful tool for music promotion. As for social networking, who gives a shit, i've got messageboards, and friends in real. and blogs, ect.

i usually don't want to know what someone had for lunch, or whether they are enjoying law and order tonight, or what they thought of this or that gig. Especially when those people are classmates i thought i had the pleasure of having gotten rid of years ago.

do you find that you get heaps of hits/ intrest from the bandcamp site itself. Or is all the intrest develop via you spamming the link around ??

mostly via spamming. but i've had a few people clicking from bandcamp. now that they've got a genre+location tagging system it's gonna pick up a bit, i think.

ive been there for quite a while, but i cancel my account and constantly delete "friends" who arent really friends...

i always want to get rid of it forever, but its too damn useful to organize parties.

I actually prefer the Facebook music page to the MySpace one, since the stream is higher than 64kbps mp3s...

it's whatever bitrate you want on myspace, as far as I know

you can upload any bitrate you want but the player will transcode to 64kbps.
