Tekken or Batman Arkham Asylum?

Ok WATMM. You've never let me down before (except for that one day that Rex was out somewhere and Weed made, like, 14 threads and everyone was like "woa weed has boobies" - a day that will go down in in ) so I call upon you now.

I have some friends who I know are going to get me a belated birthday video game. I have to figure out what said videogame is going to be. I'm thinking about asking for something that I wouldn't put on my "top tier" list, something a little cheaper to help their wallets and something that I wouldn't necessarily rush out and buy, but that I've had a passing interest in.

With that in mind, I've been considering the following (and these are all for the 360 so don't say Heavy Rain - I wish) :

Tekken 6 - Always loved Tekken, contrary to Itagaki's slander, and it's finally out for the 360. But, I heard the lag online was terrible and I'm worried that no one even plays it anymore.

Batman Arkham Asylum - Got good reviews, but I wasn't ever sure if I REALLY was going to like it. Seemed like it might become repetitive, but maybe I'm wrong.

NBA 2k10 - This would make my girlfriend kill herself, but I really love the 2K series and this one is supposed to be great.

Aliens vs Predator - Reviews suggest this is horrible. So were the movies, but I enjoyed the fuck out of 'em.

edit: Force Unleashed - I played the actual game at a friends house - pretty cool, but a little clunky.

Any thoughts what-em? Before anyone says anything, I already have:

Assassin's Creed II

Fallout III

CODMW2

Tekken 6. The lag was patched recently, and it's not bad at all - you can see your opponent's signal strength before a match, and decide if you want to battle them based on that.

Batman Arkham Asylum

I was REALLY hesitant about this game because it seemed just like any other beat em up game but the atmosphere is fantastic and if you watched the Warner Bros. Batman cartoons as a kid then you'll feel right at home.

Word - I was glad they got Luke to play the Joker - my fears exactly, but sounds like you dig it.

And, "shoelaces!"

Also with the sequel coming up you'll want to play through the original.

Also.......

Poison Ivy

Already have it, and frankly getting a little burned out on it.

At this point I'm leaning towards Arkham - seems like an overall more engaging experience, but less of that instant pickup and play gratification that Tekken would give me. . . damn, I do love me some tekken though.

Yeah, you know, I was wondering if someone was going to bring up Mass Effect. I absolutely despised the first one - don't get me wrong, it did a lot of things right and looked amazing, but just not my bag. Don't know what they could do to make me like a sequel, though reviews are great.

Now I'm back to leaning towards Tekken. *head explodes*

The original Mass Effect was ok. I mean, the story was great, it was an interesting take on sci-fi RPG but the action felt clumsy and slow and all in all it was just really slow-paced. But they changed all that in Mass Effect 2. The action is fast paced like Gears of War but you've still got all your "force powers" to play around with - and this time it actually feels as if they do something to the target. The story is also a lot more interesting and some of the new characters are awesome to say the least.

But about Batman Arkham Asylum:

The level design is also extremely cool and surprisingly dark. I don't know how much I should tell you about Batman Arkham Asylum... but...

you get to fight Scarecrow while intoxicated by his nightmare drug or whatever it is.

How fucking cool is that?

Plus, they recently released another patch to allow the "Tekken Force" mode to be co-op online, and there is TONS of customization you can do to your characters.

Batman Arkham Asylum

The fight mechanics are awesome. It's so fun and satisfying taking down a room full of bad guys.

My thoughts exactly on Arkham Asylum .

As for Tekken 6...I don't know ( I haven't played it yet ) BUT from what I hear , it's still pretty much the same ol' Tekken . Some new stuff was added , but nothing dramatic . Since you're a fan of Tekken, I doubt you'll be disappointed . Arkham Asylum is more innovative than Tekken at the moment , but...I think Tekken 's reply value is a little bit higher , so...I guess...go for Tekken, my son .

Eh , in a perfect world , Super Street Fighter IV would of been out and I would of recommend that instead of Tekken hotdogdan-2.gif

How is Arkham Asylum vs. Tekken even a comparison in the first place.

Get AA, it's game of fucking 2009.

lol ok so the decision was sort of made for me, and it looks like AA is what's coming down the pipeline. However, this thread has totally convinced me to get Tekken 6 when I have some free cash - I was kind of on the fence but hearing about the patches and the enthusiasm of people here has convinced me.

Also, the comments on Mass Effect 2 have me intrigued - sounds like they addressed the things that I disliked about the first one - specifically, I felt like there was so much potential for awesome, but that it never completely fleshed out any of the particulars. Sequel sounds tits.

Thanks WHAT-EM, providing salient advice on relationships, video games, and poop since 199?
