read it ages ago but suddenly realised that, since i knew enough russian to know what all the slang talk meant, i was in a minority of readers and shit, you see. did Burgess make up the Nadsat droog speak to be intentionally inpenetrable or not, do ye reckon?

 

pretty awesome how the spellings make some of the words seem perfectly English, especially Horrorshow and Gulliver.

my edition had a glossary in the back. was very handy for someone without knowledge of Russian I guess.

Yeah mine too. I already knew that it was a mix of russian too though.

The only slavic language I could speak was polish and I understood the slang perfectly lol

slavic languages are awesomely close together

Great book. I read that Burgess' intention with the book (originally printed without the glossary) was to brainwash the reader into learning a minimal understanding of the Russian language.

Same. I had to analyse for a course. Think it was a Penguin book.
