Wheels may be more practical than legs, but SOHLA board member Noriyuki Yoshida sees an advantage in robots that look like people. “Humanoid robots are glamorous, and they tend to get people fired up,” he says. “We hope to develop a charming robot to fulfill the dream of going to space.”

guys, we've already sent robots to fuckin' mars. it seems really impractical to send humanoid robots anywhere. i've yet to see a bipedal robot that didn't walk like a disabled war vet (only, half as fast and struggling to walk on uneven surfaces).

in this case i don't really care about scientific progress or whatever results this may bring, i just wanna see a robot walk on the moon, no more, no less.

i think that there are clearly more efficient ways to design a robot (other than mars landers, etc), but just going to human-like doesn't make it work better. they will need to be really creative and smart in their design because i'm sure they know as well as anyone that no repairman can make it to the moon.

I like the idea of really glamourous, well dressed robots in fabulous make up being sent to the moon. To the detriment of the practical side of the mission if need be.

i like those four-legged robots that can walk over any debris. i'd post a video if i remembered what they were called. i'm sure someone else does.

This guy.

that's all well and good and yes, it does navigate unpredictable terrain extremely well but where is the va va voom? The swagger? The cheekbones? Where is the mystery?
