So we're seriously going to limit this to soundcloud streaming? that's pretty damn lame to be honest. I mean, as someone who's heavily into cut-up and the like, I know that there are tons of labels who use basically exclusively copyrighted stuff for free or even for money sometimes, and get away with it every single time. If you're worried about it, I can even publish it for download (or a non-profit physical release if you want) when I make my label, making me the person responsible for the legal ramifications of it. It's really not a big deal.

http://www.discogs.c...y/master/157957

http://www.discogs.c.../release/369873

http://www.discogs.c.../release/582637

http://www.discogs.c.../release/221939

etc.

These all contained large amounts of copyrighted content, no one involved in any of them were taken to court it, and they were all paid releases.

I never said we'd limit it to soundcloud streaming. I was thinking we'd make a bandcamp page, and have a free download.

I'd like there to be a free option one way or another. If there is a chance for optional downloads, it should go to watmm, or some charity, because, since it's a compilation album, the distribution of funds would not be obvious. But this isn't about the money, people, it's about the music, and all this is really a non-issue because I'm sure there would not be a substantial amount of money.

If people feel strongly about it, I'd be okay with having the pay what you want model, so long as no one's pocketing the money.

Yeah, it's about sharing some home made treats with everyone. I mean it's a Cmas album fek sake. Maybe one day though, timbafuklordland will unearth the release and make some bank out of it.

Oh, I was never suggesting we do it for cash. I just wanted it to be a full-on release, and not a streaming-only album or whatever. I must have misread to have thought it was that though.

I'm going to start saying overusing the phrase "It's a Christmas miracle".

It's cool, i didn't really think that was what you meant.

Does it matter if we change our minds? I'm likely to try a bunch of different things and go for the one that works best. I'll try not to do anything that someone else has already taken but as Christmas is all about sharing, I think we should be allowed to share songs :P

Go ahead and do whichever song you like.

The point of the list is so we can have a general idea of what songs are taken, so hopefully there won't be too much overlap.

Does it have to be exclusively one song and do the songs have to be explicitly about Christmas itself? I was thinking about doing something with the last Christmas No.1s of the past 5 years or so, seeing as over here Christmas No.1s are still perceived as being highly relevant, largely because of the monopoly The X Factor holds over it and the inevitable tard-rage it sends 'real music fans' into.

It doesn't have to be exclusively one song, but I think it should be explicitly about Christmas. But you could make a Christmassy original composition.

That's fair enough, I guess if the songs aren't exclusively about Christmas you could just make up anything and give a half-arsed excuse as to why it's relevant.
