  1. jamie woon - wayfaring stranger (burial mix) almost the polar opposite; lovely soulful garagey fuzzy stuff; typical burial sound but that's no bad thing at all.
  2. toasty - the knowledge (vexd remix) pure evil. huge drops, with a weird metallic almost autechrey bass.
  3. interesting the directory is called confileid possibly the origin of the album title, mangled ae-style?

son, you need to calm down.
  5. the album is a quasi remix album based on the track Chichli from Chiastic Slide. although to my ears it sounds like totally new work just like most of Ae's remix work. i love the way ae will fuck about with source material like this, almost like a jazz musician would. although i can hear very little source material in there it sorta warms my electronic music wang to know that it is in there somewhere.
  6. i'm actually listening to confield for the first time in aaaages at the moiment, and i dunno if it's the change in my musical tastes in the interim or wha, but it's a lot more melodic than i remember it being.
  7. kode9 is a lazy bastard, i mean i like his stuff but i've just downloaded a bunch of stuff, and he's just a tad too fond of reversioning lines from memories of the future. i know versioning is sort of an inherited tradition blah blah but if i hear one more derivative of "addiction" i'll be slightly annoyed
  8. lately i'm down with shackleton especially i have a thing from soulseek that claims to be a split with mordant music. now my understanding is that mordant music would have more in common with ghost box music than dubstep (last.fm claims anyway)... can anyone shed some light on this? seems a rather unlikely split.
  9. i hesitate to label this one dubstep. shackleton's stuff is the fucking shit. does away with a lot of the tropes that people associate with the genre. only the syncopated kick/snare shit, and the sub (one of the most subtle, excellent uses of sub i've heard) point towards dubstep. it actually reminds me of a late 90s ryuichi sakamoto remix or something. anyway love this track; it really rewards a nice bassy setup (it sounds WAY better on my proper bedroom setup than this PC) and it's erm deep shackleton - blood on my hands
  10. and another shackleton track that's quite innocent until two minutes in, and serious bassiness after: shackleton - i want to eat you heavy
  11. oh sweet baby jesus this track starts so innocuously, a little snare, a sort of melodica thing, and a reggae vamp. and then it proceeds to the most evil drop i've ever heard. the bass is more a sort of presence. fuck. shackleton - naked
  12. the problem with rapidshare is you have to wait an hour an a half between downloads, so if someone sends me ten files on rapidshare, you have to be at ur computer all day to download them. cheapass solution; if you delete the relevant cookies and reset your modem you don't less cheapass one; accounts are VERY cheap, and mean no waiting; also, there are about a fucking million albums there for the taking on projectw as rapidshare links.
  13. btw, i find rapidshare the fastest of the upload services.
  14. Luke Vibert - Sonar 2005 - Barcelona - 16-06-2005 is on the way. soundboard recording.
  15. there was a decent interview with ollie skream in an irish music mag recently. apparently his love of reggae and dub is a relatively new thing cos of his DMZ mates. his background is working in a jungle/dnb record shop. he claims the album is so happy cos he made it in the summer, and his new stuff is darker again. the album is nice, but isn't so representative of his stuff imo, the skreamism stuff is much more to the point.
  16. i was just thinking about things that sound like dubstep but are not and are not as recent autechre - recury and some other bits of chiastic slide as well. i was listening to this last night, the shuffled beat, the snare sound, just all very dubsteppy. prolly some other autechre too. sabres of paradise - wilmot. add some sub and it's skream. linton kwesi johnson - aka spaceape's dad. the drum track from some massive attack thing - aka 'prayer' by burial
  17. junior boys - double shadow (kode9 remix) mr. hyperdub (and an uncredited spaceape) extract some dub from a slice of indietronica.
  18. tasty! almost anvil-vapre-era-autechresque, in a way.
  19. someone was on about no dubstep really blowing them away? well, bar some burial shit (who i think is on a totally different trajectory to the rest of the scene anyway), this is one i cannot stop listening to - i first heard it on that mary anne hobbs mix i posted. i'm listening to a lot of the more reggaefied + standard monster subbass type stuff lately. digital mystikz - anti war dub dubstep is very good music to play video games to.
  20. skream - smiley face skream - hag i must admit i'm a complete sucker for the poppier dancehall stuff on skream's debut album (that track with warrior queen is fuckin sublime), but these two from skreamizm vol 1 are bass monsters. if anyone is going to get dubstep into the charts it'll be skream, but i nearly hope that doesn't happen.
  21. he has the best sub-bass noises i've heard in dubstep, no doubt about that.
  22. skream live on rinse fm or http://whats-your.name/here/stella28f7.mp3 proper pirate radio an ting lovely subby stuff, including a dub of joanna newsom's 'the book of right on' OH YES (bout 6:40 in)
  23. i like dubstep heavily syncopated rhythms rule
  24. the action packed mentalist is great fun his NWA remix is tops as well
