  1. Running demo mode and yeah, piano roll was something that jumped out at me. Probably just used to ableton rn and need to get used to bitwig but it felt kinda clunky/glitchy.

One thing I'm trying to figure out is if you can do ableton style clip modulation. Like drawing modulation evelopes on the clip. I know Bitwig can do automation but I like the modulation behavior on a clip by clip basis in ableton.

These are small potatoes though, compared to all the good and unique things it can do.  Selling Ableton was a very easy decision to make.  It's a very good fit for me (preferring to take the approach of building a track like a giant "machine" rather than laying down and arranging static events on a timeline) but of course a lot of people prefer a more trad/linear experience (which it can also do of course, but perhaps in a less distinguished way)

I've always felt paralized by the timeline but building a "machine" is definitely what I'm going for. Good to hear

  2. Anyone currently using Bitwig as their main DAW? Running demo and love how open and inviting the modulation is and I haven't even touched the grid yet. I'm about ready to switch over from Ableton but am curious to hear a critical view from active users.

  3. Had my phone stolen the other day, about $300 gone.

Question for those who are tech savvy. Should I get a new phone number or am I good keeping my current one? I was using a Google Pixel 4a with an eSIM. I changed all the passwords that were associated with the phone but I'm afraid of a duped phone number.

Should I be worried about security or is the more likely outcome that the phone is being sold for parts?

this film is an epistolary of wes anderson obsessions

when i was growing up, i distinctly remember the adrian mole books. the main character was a very interesting kind of nerd because he treated every little thing that happened in his life as though it was some important historic event that needed to be catalogued for futures benefit. eg when the family dog is taken to the vet, the date, time and manner of the dog's treatment is recorded and observed. it insisted on this kind of data collection and i see this film (and most wes anderson films) as sharing that characteristic.

everything from the dialogue to the art direction to the collection of "things" in the film and of course- the characters.

I found this film very hard to watch. Loved it until after the first short but felt overwhelmed with all the minute detail. During the last short, I closed my eyes in the theater for a bit because I couldn't keep up. I think this would work a lot better watching each short on their own instead of watching the movie as a whole in one sitting.  Wes has reached peak Anderson

The side buttons on my moto g6 just started acting up and I really don't want to have to get a new phone. I wanted my next phone to be smaller, not larger, but everything seems to have trended larger. Pixel 4a seems to be the only smaller option released in the last few years, but it is discontinued (and apparently had mediocre battery life). Iphone 12/13 mini are pretty much the only small option, and i'd rather not go apple (have nothing else in that ecosystem, and they are also more $$$ than I would like to spend). SIGH

Yea I ended up ordering a refurbished Pixel 4a. I had a chance to feel out a Pixel 5 which has similar dimensions and its definitely a goldilocks phone when it comes to size. The battery is kind of a bummer but not a deal breaker, and theres always the option to bring a portable battery/charger for longer trips.

Hoping that when I need another phone in 3-4 years, the market will edge smaller

I work at a salon/barbershop and we just play a top40 station on spotify for most of the day. Lewis Capaldi is one of the only artists where I will actually stop my client, walk over to the main computer and click 'next'. He peddles in the most cloying piano ballads imaginable and sings the lyrics with this maddening cursive vowel sound that all vocalists under 24 seem to have espoused. This one in particular is tantamount to a physical assault:

This kind of music is so emotionally manipulative
