  1. Thanks for all the non-conventional filmmaking 101, it sure is a wonder that somebody makes something like that, i mean a girl vomits in background and no explanation or resolution is given, truly wow

  2. Regarding Putin's quote that ignited a discussion in the media. My take is it's his usual hypnosis inducing rhetorics at work that has nothing to do with AI specifically.

Not a subject of the thread so i'll put it under the boring tags

The context is that in March and June anti-corruption protests happened across all Russia seemingly out of nowhere (there was a formal cause of uncovering multi-billion worth of corruption of the prime minister Medvedev, aka former placeholder president while Putin was preparing his next 12 years in power). Peaceful protests against power are de facto outlawed in Russia, as no court will take your side no matter how constitutional your rights are and the police are acting as agents of the corrupted State, inducing fear into disobedient citizens. So in order to happen massively it's not only had to have a big cause, but also consist of a yet inexperienced crowd, like schoolboys and students - all this crowd dwells on local Youtube in millions, free from the State censorship and mostly immune to its propaganda, where they naturally get to know that no future is waiting for them under Putin's rule.

So now the Kremlin tries to reach this dangerous, if left untreated, school audience and organize a live event on the school's opening day, an open lesson with Putin. Pupils across the country are talking about their great aspirations in science & technology and Putin reacts to every single one with a variation of a generic "this is a very interesting field, full of prospect, keep up the work, it'll be valued". The truth is it will not as his 18 years in power showed unequivocally. And this AI reply is just Putin's usual empty demagoguery that's masking his indifference towards conscious people in his country.

  3. Why im not surprised? I mean, music without lyrics!

To be fair, if you look into lyrics of some of his known favourites, off the top - Suicide (they even collaborated), Hasil Adkins

    That goes like this

Come on baby, don't you be late

I want your head, I want it tonight
Cut your head of at half past eight
I'll have it on my wall about a half past ten

Yeah, come on baby, I want that head
Come on baby, I want that head
I want your head to hang on my wall tonight
Now honey, don't you be afraid
'Cause I'm gonna cut your head off
    About a half past eight

Just like I said, I'm gonna cut your head off
And you can eat no more hot dogs
    Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
    Hi-hi-hi-hi-hi-hi, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
    Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
    Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha

    Or this

    Frankie is so desperate

He's gonna kill his wife and kids
    Frankie's gonna kill his kid
    Frankie picked up a gun

Pointed at the six month old in the crib
    Oh Frankie
    (scream)
    Frankie looked at his wife

    Shot her
    (screams)
    "Oh what have I done?"
    Let's hear it for Frankie

    Frankie Teardrop
Frankie put the gun to his head
    (screams)
    Frankie's dead

    (screams)

    Frankie's lying in hell
    (screams)

    We're all Frankies
    We're all lying in hell
    (screams)

It kinda makes sense, despite art and all

  4. Anyone knows what was the cause of death?

T'was his birthday yesterday  Does anyone know exactly how we passed away? I heard it was an accident while vacationing in France.

    edit: as Godwin just asked.

Based on unverified data, it seems he had dangerous tendencies for several years now. I don't know whose texts are these, the first screenshot is from another forum's similar thread back in April (by user "mego") http://forums.hipinion.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=106628

  5. Don't know if it's been mentioned yet but the last couple of EPs by Lanark Artefax are scratching an itch for me ATM.

He's just done a mix for FACT too. Haven't listened yet tho.

He also got a large-ass feature in FACT with many pictures of him staring into the distance like a true deep thinker every other electronic producer is. He got some smart boy education, knows shit.

Oh yeah he also released a couple of tracks already, what a titan

  6. reminds me a bit of Soma. am I the only person itt who played that game? I thought it was practically perfect.

I played Soma, actually anticipated playing it. Didn't like it in the end. Some of the biggest cons i still recall are:

    1. Idiotic voice acting of the protagonist, this generic overly sentimental videogame voice accentuating on all the wrong things, also trying to impose blindness on the player - prime example is how he couldn't foresee the ending that already happened to him in that magic chair.

    2. Conflicting game mechanics of exploration and pussy-hiding from arbitrary monsters (already a numbing cliche in horror games, though Alien: Isolation is one of my favourite games, there you had multiple tools and the disposition of power was clear), basically a genre conflict of the so-called walking simulator made into a game through a non-demanding game mechanic habitual to developers.

There was a lot more in the moment, it didn't really get to me aside from the setting and the premise.

  7. anyone else feels that tbm2 could be an homage to basic channel?

Queen's We Will Rock You more like (i think there was an appropriate edit somewhere in this thread)

If i were to choose the most BC-esque track on elseq 1-5 it would be freulaeux (along the Maurizio's M4-M4.5 lines), still far-fetched

  8.

Serious psychology force in the thread, real soul engineers

Well if you're finding any comedy in what he's doing now, feel free to point it out to the rest of us. Otherwise, enjoy the schadenfreude because it's being served fresh.

And if i don't it changes what? I enjoy watching regardless if it's comedic or not and don't embrace clues for right-wing neo-nazi edgelord mass murderer etc.

You seem especially commited, notice how often you post here lately and how little it differs every time.

  9. when the human protagonists refuse to wear helmets when exploring new planets, and then act like fucking amateurs when they inevitably get infected, its impossible to give a shit about anyone in the movie

Like they were listening to all the Prometheus outcry for taking off helmets and poking at shit and went like "noted", and just outright abandon helmets on an alien world whatsoever. Funny thing is that in both cases it wasn't really necessary for anything to happen - in Covenant less so, but in a world where different people repeatedly get fucked by the same blood spot on the floor the writers had multiple ways to let it slide.

It's tough to retain some sort of authenticity when taking on quasi-biblical epos. At this point new Alien movies not so much destroy the legacy as make the original some sort of wonder.

  10.

    pfffft snob

i guess every fart DL drops is a sign of genius in your eyes.

well, good luck to you and your opinions, sir.

    farty on.

for (f)art's sake, seriously doe what gives? the mean characters? the style/moods? Washington state? Naomi Watts (come to Butthead)?

even at its most linear its still worth the plunge for 50mins, surely? the alternatives arent great unless you're knee-deep in Tarkovsky & everything else seems futile, i could just about get the latter

surrealism like Twin Peaks doesnt come around too often & Marcel Duchamp's been dead a while, give it another go, it'll repay you for it

either that or its a Top Hat fart to establish both the passing of wind & snobbery status symbol

You seem to be to much into art brands, no offence. How about Duchamp was a charlatan, Max Ernst liked to talk bullshit, surrealism was a literature nerds having childish circle-jerk, Tarkovsky wasn't the chosen one - and all that has no connection to Lynch's style.

  11.

Can't stop thinking it was somehow Moby's fault.

Heheh yeah, that song was awful and I blamed Moby before walking out of the room.  Pretty sure Lynch is using studio versions of all the songs, and for some reason producers are still slapping autotune on everything.  That song would have been terrible either way.  Some songs are just born bad.

Album version has no autotune (it was co-written by Lynch as stated in credits) and genius says it's also produced by Lynch & Hurley. It must be a deliberate edit, most likely some sort of succession to her Mulholland Dr. scene (fake-true interference).

  12.

Just bought Mass Effect: Andromeda for 20 bucks, I wasn't hyped for this before release, so I can't lose.

    :trap:

    You already lost.

Ackbar is there for a reason.

I am one month ahead in your situation and i think it's not that bad, especially coming in with low expectations, it even gets better & dirtier after that fucking new species story drag.

They had no meat for a reboot, but technically it's a competent spin-off (by now) which would have won at less hyped setting, like first contact wars for example, where they wouldn't need to add on lifeforms and mythology and could concentrate on a spectacle and already developed world.

  13. Life - not sure why this got such a bad rap, much better than Alien Covenant, wasn't even that much of an Alien rip-off like I'd heard people say.

Dayum, Covenant must be really shitty then (not seen it yet). Not a rip-off of Alien for sure aside from basic plot elements, but it was so shallow and unbelievable, it was basically sadistic porn of omnipotent creature fucking with stupid humans and in that nonsensical nature it was kinda fresh take on the genre.

  14. Can you expound on that? Cuz from what little that i've read or heard in interviews the worst thing that I can see being leveled at him is that he comes off a bit pretentious. So are tons of other artists worshipped on here and I don't see them getting called a bitch (unless that's Andy's character in the Shoeballadeers)

I personally don't worship anyone and can easily get at someone else if that would level your worldview in my case. You mean Squarepusher, who else are these tons? I could call names at Tom, like an asshole for example, yet i perceive his usual tone as mostly informed and competent, though unnecessary. Me, i was called a cunt on here and OK with that type of reaction.

As for Actress, he just talks bullshit after bullshit constantly reminding of his artistic outlook and sensibility, so it just feels natural to call him a bitch. My scepticism began to grow perhaps when he called AFX god on twitter and followed it by praising his label protegee Zomby as being better than AFX. I'm OK with both assumptions on their own but not in combination.

I mean it can't be really asserted with evidence that someone is a bitch. I can only envy you that you don't see him as a bitch, because all in all i'm interested in his output and my impression of him as a bitch doesn't help.

  15. Plot twist: aliens are conventionally intelligent, can speak coherently and up for a civilized dialogue.

So yeah, alien: "'cuse me, i was totally scared as fuck, then this bitch wouldn't let me rest peacefully"

"this is how we propagate, sorry, can't do anything about the way imma born, nature's a weird bitch"

"you people are cruel disgusting fucks, what about ecology"

"i do shit and piss, this is how - specially for auxien"

  16. A guy sweeping the floor for a minute is effective only because it's inside overall conventional storytelling. Otherwise you be watching Bela Tarr or Lav Diaz 10-hour stuff or whatever

  17. 6-36 is dece 'n all but the above cannot be improved upon

For sure, but Imprint is one of the peak R&S tracks that got 17 closing mins on their best CD comp and 6-36 is a digitally released sidestep of Ae, the third echelon of Quaristice releases and basically B-side of a B-side

  18. Anyone buying FIFA 18?

Likely checking the demo would be enough for me, but FIFA17 was the best one in years for sure. Somewhere in mid 00s i tried Pro Evolution Soccer and that was a revelation at the time in terms of simulation, never looked back at FIFA until recent years where both games had serious rigidness in game style (i mostly play on the hardest level vs computer, it becomes very railway experience). The latest one is finally playable.

  19. Why all of those twin peaks band members looks/sings like they are retarded?

It's the only way you can sing that shit with a straight face.

I think it's the weakest part of the series thus far, this "closing musical number" thrown-in cheese. Kinda makes other scenes more arbitrary too
