  1. The amount of respect WATMM had back in the days.

Guy's got super lucky with potentially-not-a-bitch and instead of addressing God if he deserves it, he asks for WATMM's approval. And of course WATMM is like a devil, whispers contradicting thoughts and sows doubts.

  2. Crypto grew in value considerably (thru a lot of people investing in it) and we got a new class of young crypto-rich people and they want to pay for art like fiat-rich people. Since they're nerds and have no art agents to think for them, they buy shit like this, believing it would be valuable for eternity now, creating an alternative art industry that is as speculative and status-signalling as the real world one (does it really matter if rich people have the artworks physically?).

So there's crypto money to suck suddenly, high-profile and cunning artists begin to suck.

Also it's a PR for crypto by those already heavily invested in it. May eventually work for everybody.

My mind just jumps right to the environmental impact, I don't give a shit about any of the rest of it - the whole idea is ludicrous. Anything that uses this much energy should not be growing in popularity like this.

Reading about it i'm not sure if the environmental aspect matters this much in this context, it seems the same energy would be used by Etherium regardless of NFT-craze operations, and the technology is also on the verge of transitioning to a new standard already in place that very significantly lowers electricity usage. So the industry adapts on the fly unlike in anything else.

Also hydroelectric power plants in China that largely feed the calculations possibly have no other use as it's logistically unprofitable to other industries. It's kinda gatekeepingly to talk about environmental abuse of this possibly folk-liberating new crypto thing while the big boys controlling the economy are still in play.

    Not defending the NFT bullshit.

WATMM have a dedicated thread on this in live & tours subforum (don't know why there in particular): https://forum.watmm.com/topic/99828-amks-live

If it has nothing to do with Gescom, it's better to consodilate links there not here

I always feel like Andy Maddocks is the "leader" of Gescom and pushing it B-boystyle with skratching and beats.
Autechre jumps in and edit stuff for the fun, Russell Haswell for heavy noise duties and Rob Hall for long and proper mixes.

Bola not so active but made his reverb-magic tracks back in the days.

I feel like Gescom is only Ae and all the other guys are mainly in the past.

    Haha, nice.

I might be fairly new here but I've heard all about WATMM, so I guess the stories are true...

Good to know there are some decent people here who like to discuss and theorise particular things though rather than just be a shitposter.

So the stories are true... Well, at least some decent people are around here, not only shitposters.

That shitposter, hello spiral, he got it a wee bit harsh aesthetically reacting to a picture you have no hand in, good that you, decent demo, saved the day by attacking the whole forum.

they dreamed of a future of sex and money, but something went wrong, and they fell in a nightmare of over 40s obsessed with white noise who spend their days deciphering black rectangles swearing to find Conway

They did the sexy photoshoots throughout the 90s, seems just not to play out, i mean the competion is tough even for our belles.

It's such a shame they failed so miserably to be sexy quality and stuck producing low-life noises for spare change instead of high-life pop diamonds on the scale of some geniuses of our time like Drake, Kanye, Khaled, Wet ass pussy chick, Thom Yorke etc. The paradise was so near they could almost touch it, if you think about it.

At least we ugly old self-proclaimed autists that had no chance at proper life share a nightmare with our beautés.

  7. Chilling tracks, both Creep's and Dong's, enjoyed them highly!

Out of the last batch (previous are liquidated according to the protocol), i probably prefer the first one here -- couldn't do what i intended to do and then blindly applied the leftover FX parameters to the small side rhythm, basically just trash MIDI-cadabra for testing, and it kinda powered up:

if the infrastructure used for distributing music is controlled by a smaller group of people than all of the musicians in the world, then those musicians WILL be exploited.  the governments don't care about music or else they'd create nationalized public utilities for distributing and selling music.  or else there is no free music market.  the music industry must be socialized to overcome these issues.  all of them can be pinpointed back specifically to capitalism

    https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1844/manuscripts/needs.htm

I like your solution! Baddie capitalist make it, we take it! Power to the people! In fact, since baddies were using wage slaves we already built it, baddie capitalist was actually being a thief building that.

And how sweet of you to quote none other than Marx! You know, here in Russia (i'm dually Niger / Russia to clarify) we have streets named after him in every city still. Kiddies were studying the theory in schools. All thanks to the majestic revolution that quickly disposed of millions (units of people, if you would call enemies of the equality such) and despite disgusting and totally unnecessary sort of counter-revolution that killed a bunch of other millions (all that before the big war that killed another boring 20-to-30 millions -- unfortunately not that inspiring a sacrifice culturally compared to Holocaust and brave American & British victims, but i digress).

Worked splendidly, that Marx stuff, nationalized everything, liberated women to work in factories, promoted the most incompetent people to highest positions, and happily disintegrated in just about 70 years leaving a bunch of previously non-existing dictatorships in its place.

Now, i'm no socialist (well aside from non-jokingly getting 100% Classical Marxist on a political test), yet i hate Spotify and don't use it at all. So i agree on your plan to socialize that thing, in fact guys like Mussolini would 100% agree on that and even that other funnily mustached ghost of every internet discussion would likely agree.

Who do you envision to do it? Are these billion zombies who is perfectly okay with using Spotify going to do it? Or maybe it's gonna take us to do it? You know, exactly like those 450 out of 550 jewish administrative apparatus of post-revolution Russia. So the real question is: you jew? If so, i'm in!

Well, he's difficult to digest at times. Any recommendations for a super dark side of him? I'm especially thinking about:

Woohoo, dark. Love this track so much. Not surprisingly I love Murcofs Urano.

As for C. Douglas: good old SDSS had even real beats, I still like it, if he thinks it's cheesy from todays perspective? ?

Maybe some specific track recommendations, thx.

Gescom MD, I bought two, I think I still have one. I Asked someone to record it on tape back then because I had no md player myself. Was a rare thing and after all no success.

No one mentioned footwork. This remix is definitely AE's take on footwork.

I get the footwork flavour, but footwork didn't invent this type of rhythmic busy- and jumpy- ness, it merely sped it up from its Chicago ghettodance roots

I hope to hear new remixes very soon (I understand the SOPHIE one was actually 5+ years old?)

No, the request for a remix was old, the remix itself is rather fresh, tied to the recent system's reconfiguration judging by Sean Anthony's mixlr comments.

    On the topic:

My feeling of "eras" suggest a roughly 7 year release cycle (1991-1997, 1998-2005, 2006-2011, 2013-2018 plus live recordings), inside that i distinctly prefer LP5 to Untilted run by vague memory and the recent one by less vague memory.

Russia becoming more and more authoritarian (not that it wasn't that before) is partly to blame on Merkel. Schröder did a more diplomatic Russia politic which for a short time led Russia to open up and orient towards the West, Merkel spoilt that. Schröder is now working in the Russian oil industry, so there is that weird after taste. But had Merkel chosen a more diplomatic approach, maybe Russia would have continued that course of slowly becoming more liberal.

Germany is a US colony after losing the WWII and have little say in the matter since.

I generally agree with the notion (discussed in detail in this Yale lecture by a TV guy who worked both in US and USSR, now in Russia) that it is the US who created Putin by continuing to disregard his objections, mainly to NATO bases crawling closer and closer to the Russian border. Not to say that Putin is innocent or anything (though he's made greater than he is by Western media), but the lecture notes how USSR and then Russia did not do a single thing against US foreign interests for about 20 years period of 1986-2006 and still was treated as a potential enemy.

Like initially, when Gorbachev agreed to go away from East Germany, supposedly the deal was that US won't go there and the whole Germany would become a neutral zone, at least that's what i heard of Alexander Dugin recalling his private talk with a retired famed US diplomat who participated in that agreement and the diplomat confessed to Dugin that they tricked Gorbachev successfully.

I dont mind the vocals at all actually, i always fe like Clark geta too much hate here these days, i remember everyone disliking Clark and death peak when they came out but i loved them. Sometimes it feel like some watmmers cling to the favorite periode of their artists and then reject any change or development in sound that artist tries to make. Like everyone saying they prefer Chris Clark music over the music under the Clark moniker. Of course everyone is entitled tot their opinion! But i feel like some you the people saying that stuff cant accept that an artist like Clark evolved and changes his sound over time. I remember reading somewhere that he fucken hated creating ETBOY, het everyone here wants him go go back to that sound. Why? If he doesn't enjoy or didn't enjoy making the album i don't want him to return to that same sound and or working method.

Well, i remember him writing (in Myspace days) how painstakingly he built that album trying to make it the absolute best he could, so it says nothing that he hated the process (especially in hindsight) while people may be right in accessing it as his best.

Regarding every discussion returning to that album, i haven't seen anything of sort, i suspect you're hyperbolizing -- perhaps it's your own favourite? One i saw regularly praised was Body Riddle. Personally, i think he mellowed out considerably post-2009, around Iradelphic.

I remeber someone asked in the AAA what they think about Sophie and they answered like "What is it? A scam?" lol ?

You remember incorrectly. I saw a link to that post recently: someone linked to this song asking for an opinion and Robert John asked it if's a spam and Sean Anthony said he bought it and it's fucking great.
