  1. I don't know if this interview has already been posted - and you're having a laugh if you think I'm trawling through hundreds of thread pages! - but here it is anyway:

    http://www.list.co.uk/article/23920-autechre-oversteps-tour-includes-glasgow-date-sean-booth-interview/

Do these mean anything, or are the pair just playing? ‘Both,’ states Booth, ‘because you can’t play without meaning, can you? Their meanings aren’t explicit, but they are there. I mean, if you could get away without naming anything, that would be good. We have to do it for cataloguing reasons, so most of the time we just use our working titles, unless they look horrible. That’s another thing, we’re really into the way certain letters look, and converge. I think it goes back to when we were younger, it’s a tagging thing, a definite aesthetic consideration.’ He laughs. ‘We don’t name our songs like that because we’re trying to be dickheads about it.’

    lol, I love it

  2. "If you have any interest in challenging electronic music, you want to hear this. "

yeah Confiled, Draft and Untilted don't quite match that description

Yah...i also think that Oversteps is just not challenging enough.

Challenging level that would be optimal:)

I cheated, I don't think I ever would have figured this out on my own. I was trying to solve it like a Rubik's cube but no dice.

    A is correct.

    Step 1

Look at each matrix individually, and assign it a number based upon the number of shapes that have no neighbors of the same shape; your result will be:

    1-3-2

    2-1-3

    3-2-?

Clearly, we need a "1" to fill the pattern.

    Step 2

How many different ways are there to write a "1"? Only 3:

    Method 1)

    --*

    *--

    *--

    Method 2)

    --*

    *--

    -*-

    Method 3)

    *-*

    *--

    ---

Looking the two "1"'s already in play, we see that we have a "Method 1" and a "Method 2", but no "Method 3". Obviously this lack of completeness cannot be tolerated, so we need a "Method 3" "1" to complete the pattern.

    Conclusion

We circle answer "A", because it's the only "Method 3" answer available. The specific shapes, orientation of the "1" pattern, and relationships between the "1" pattern and the "2" and "3" patterns are left as an exercise for the obsessive. Personally, if the puzzle maker couldn't be bothered to hide the answer better (and/or eliminate alternate solutions) I can't be bothered to care.

  3. Oversteps actually makes me picture rain forests (or myself asleep depending on the track :P). But I can also understand the Tron lightcycle image too.

I can totally see the rainforest imagery too on a few tracks. I dunno, most of the sounds remind me of lasers and glass prisms, haha. Autechre's Dark Side of the Moon? What did you think of the actual album?

  4. I have a feeling this is going to become a classic for me, but I still can't get over how terrible the artwork is! WTF TDR! :wtf:

You think? I quite like it!

Is there something wrong with me? (don't answer that)

Can't remember if you listened or not, it just really does not match the music at all. Whoever said that the Just A Souvenir cover was a good fit for this was spot on. I am thinking of Tron lightcycles when I listen to this album.

  5. I thought this was real but I'm very happy it's been confirmed. This is the first Autechre in a long time I haven't had to convince myself to like when it first came out. Draft, Untilted, and Quaristice had their moments but I love the move ae made with this one, it's a gorgeous sounding album right off the bat and I'm sure it will get even better as I become more familiar with the melodies. Oversteps ftw!
