  1. Thanks for the support everyone, I have been so pleased with the reception it's getting. It's hard to know if spending an obsessive amount of time on something is worth it until you release it into the world but it seems like this is something I should keep doing. This will be the last LONG form one for a while though, maybe ever. I want to start focusing on shorter but more frequent content so we can stay fresh, try new things, and avoid burn out. I'll continue making DJ mixes though with the new found free time.

I can't say too much but a pretty big name personally reached out and with any luck we may be collaborating on something down the road (not one of the musicians I used but it's pretty awesome).

  2. Thanks for checking it out everyone! Yeah was happy to get that retweet from Jay Bauman, I figured he might be into it so I tweeted him and apparently I made a good call there. Time to get the ball rolling on getting the word out to blogs and such this week. Not sure if this has any potential to go viral since it's so long and weird, but I worked hard on it so it's worth a shot.

I added downloads for both audio mixes in the tracklist section, let me know if you run into any problems.

  3. Fucking amazing.

Just finished watching this. Will the audio mix be available too?

Thanks! It's on Mixcloud now but I don't think has downloads available. Wanted to throw it on Percussion Lab but I think the site has more or less been left for dead as whole sections of it aren't working. I could always put it on Mediafire or a hosting site other than Soundcloud if anyone has a good one.

  4. For anyone in New York I'm having a screening in Williamsburg in Brooklyn tomorrow night. Two shows, one at 7:30 and one at 10:00. Megaplex in full drops online this Friday for everyone else. It's an 80 minute double feature that my editing partner and I have been working on constantly for 18 months. Get excited, this is the most ambitious project I've ever worked on, I think you guys are really gonna like this!

Info and tickets here, I'll post the vid on Friday!

We each selected 25 movies for each half. I mix the audio first and then we try to pick movies that fit the feel of the music and are also super visually interesting. Each track usually has a loose theme to keep things interesting.

From there it's a painstaking process of trying to line up clips that best fit the flow of the audio. We cut about 10,000 clips between the two of us for this one. Takes forever but very rewarding to work on. Thanks for the kind words!

that's really cool man, nice work. really inspiring shit. I just talked to rob's dad and he's absolutely interested in doing music for you ; )

Oh man, Rob's dad on the decks would be absolutely mental. That day on CHATMM for the AE live mix was the best. I remember literally crying laughing at a couple parts.

I think this was the song that started that whole joke? The boys took a smoke break and Rob's dad went with some smooth funk before wrecking the studio with some viscious IDM.

I ended up doing my own 10 hour mix after being inspired by that set. Very fun although time consuming, hope to do another one someday!

  7. how the fuck long does something like this take? also, these aren't all sourced from VHS are they? look pretty HQ in moments...

Ben and I have been working on this for about 18 months. It's 80 minutes total, somewhere between 500-1000 hours to make which is insane. But it's a labor of love and I'm finally getting some freelance work from this and screenings in festivals and museums so it's worth it. And yeah these are sourced from 720p or higher this time, no more VHS.

  8. Pretty lazy track if you ask me. I can't remember the exact track but the percussion is DEFINITELY Moondog. I'm travelling right now but can look it up when I'm back tomorrow. The flute part is a barely reworked sample of the track below. It may not be the original source but you could bang out this track super quick with just those two samples.

  9. Got into Aphex Twin through MTV Amped in the late 90s. Started to move away from the big beat sound I was previously into and got into Boards of Canada and Plaid. The first Autechre album I tried was Confield which was the newest at the time. Turned me right off and I didn't check them out again for a couple years because it was too weird for me (I now love the album).

First thing I think that clicked with me was the Nightmares on Wax remix they did which I heard on a compilation. From there I checked out their entire discography in chronological order and totally became obsessed. Chiastic Slide was the album that really sealed the deal for me.

  10.

Yeah, ae are losing steam. What?!?

sr six but youre comment is ridiculous . its like saying boards of canada are not that cool like skrillex anymore...

Hey now, let's not put words in my mouth. I stand by my comment, I absolutely love the AE boys and I thought Exai was really great, but the fact is they don't excite me as much as they used to. They are my all time favorite and I can't wait to see them live next week(!) but my tastes have changed a lot since my late teens. Didn't say they are losing steam, but let's face it, they're not getting any younger and this has been their longest gap between releases.

Boards of Canada's latest I got bored of very quickly. They haven't done anything great since Geogaddi imo, which is still one of my all time favorites. I never brought up Skrillex, who I'm not a fan of.

Point being, I don't see how it's brainless to be excited about newer talent while still appreciating groups I've liked for nearly 20 years. I've been on the forum since 2003 and don't post much any more because threads devolve into bickering and semantics more often than they used to. I'm just trying to spread the love for an album that's really resonating with me in what has been a less than thrilling year for me in terms of new music. Aside from the AFX soundcloud dump of course, I think we can all agree on that!

No hate, I still love all you guys, just I don't like having my words twisted when I was trying to express genuine excitement about something.

  11. Loving this more and more after a few listens. It's a really adventurous album without being unpleasant to listen too. One of the coolest things I've heard in a while, it flows nicely and works as a coherent album. He's really carrying the torch for inventive experimental music as Autechre get older and less prolific. Might be too soon to say but I think this is already my album of the year so far. Excellent work Daniel!

  12. thats too bad it leaked this early.

Did anybody get a chance to listen to any of the midi file covers from the album? Maybe i misunderstood but it seemed like he allowed fans to cover the songs off the new album using midi files without even hearing the actual songs first (and that was the first 'full preview' of the lp).

It does suck it leaked early, hopefully it generates some hype though. Kind of weird he posted that midi and it leaked on the same day. I for one really like it and plan on buying it though.

Here's the only midi cover I heard.
