if you like music that is more pretentious than every idm artist put together but manages to distinguish itself as something a little different from your average metal band then go ahead. oh, but watch out for the fanboys, they're more facepalm inducing than boc and ae fanboys.
wouldn't really call tool pretentious. they are a pretty tongue-in-cheek kind of band. it's the fanboys who are the pretentious ones. and i would also class them equally as faceplam inducing as their ae&boc peers, maybe for different reasons. fanboys are generally horrible.
but yes, you should check out tool. been doing their thing for pretty much 20 years now.

my favourites of monolake are interstate and hongkong, the remastered versions. the alaska/melting and atlas/titan 12"s are awesome aswell and sound fucking massive loud. the melting track especially.

anyone checked out henke's latest solo, indigo_transform, basically a 60 minute reworking of the indigo track from cinemascope? i really like his layering buddha work and the atom/document one.

i guess vladislav delay's luomo moniker could be called house music. the first album, 'vocalcity' is the most superior of his luomo albums, imo.
