  1. I dont think there will b any tradtional xenomorphs as such in this film and the connection to the first alien will only be a similar ship under different circumstances but will give more an insight into the space jockey origins.

Perhaps the craft in the first Alien tried to do what the Promethius one does but fails because of how much nastier the xeno aliens are.

How this will tie into AvP timeline is anyones guess but if they're smart they should continue with the Yutani story and stolen alien technology helping humans go into space plus syart making a decent film of the franchise.

When i was younger i always wanted the Space Jocky to turn out to be a cocooned Predator of some sort but alas

I don't think Ridley gives a shit about keeping continuity with AvP. As far as I am concerned, I don't consider them canon at all, they fucked up the continuity by themselves already.

  2. my take on this:

in the first alien movie, the nostromo was unexpectedly rerouted to the planet where they encountered the er alien. i reckon this is gonna retcon it so the weyland-yutani corporation were well aware of the planet previously due to a disastrous previous mission. this movie will be the story of that mission.

According to the timeline on the Weyland industries site, there has not been a merger between Weyland-Yutani. The Prometheus mission is strictly a Weyland enterprise. I hope this movie doesn't explain the the derelict ship on LV-426 and this movie is about a whole other space jockey ship. However, what transpires in this movie is probably why the Company is on the look out for more of these places, thus having Ash on a mining ship in case they find something.

Pretty good analysis of the latest trailer, but I really wouldn't recommend you click it unless you're okay with possible spoilers. I kind of wish I hadn't as it raised some themes I hadn't even considered and don't really want to discuss here, in case it ruins the experience for anyone. It's in the spoiler.

Essentially, it's the talk about Fassbender being an android. I might have known that before, but it never properly sank in. And that maybe he wants to use the alien technology to become human... But then, the biggest idea for me, was how the veiny figure on Earth at the beginning of the trailer could in fact occur at the end of the film, but at the beginning of human existence (according to the "leaked" synopsis which involved an element of time-travel).

I believe the leaked synopsis is considered to be fake.

  4. These trailers seem to give away a lot of the plot and big set pieces, so I wonder if there might be something big that is not in these trailers that be a big twist.

So far I gather it's that they find these ancient starmaps. Go to the planet and activate some sort of lifeform that takes over the crew and plans to go to Earth and destroy it. The space jockeys are some sort of race that wipes out civilizations when they reach a certain technological level, like the inhibitors in Revelation Space by Reynolds. The xenomorph and whatever is in this movie are the weapons to do that.

  5. I was assuming people on this board were familiar with the classic albums documentary series. But I guess this is not the case. There is one docu made about screamadelica. It also covers the (huge!) part Weatherhall has in the success of the album.

On the classic albums series: these are a must for any bedroom producer, imo. Especially because of the way the decision making by producers/writers is given attention.

Second the recommendation. I always get stuck watching that program if I stumble on it, no matter what album they are talking about.

  6. I think it's Squarepusher. Sounds like him. And AFX/Rephlex fanboys sure get worked up about little. This is nothing special. Rephlex hasn't released anything groundbreaking in years, just slight re-imaginations and re-interpretations of well treaded paths from years ago.

  7. Again, in Alien they were space truckers, not a well-funded exploration team with all the latest toys.

that's like saying the reason everything looks so clean and sterile in Phantom menace is because 'the empire hadn't fuck everything up yet'

it's really because big budget hollywood has an obsession with sterility and clean looking sets, not for any other reason at all, im just disappointed ridley opted for a scifi look that appears 1,000 times more polished (in a bad way) visually than Bladerunner or Alien.

( i am mostly just referring to the trailer, not the still)

Well it makes far more sense that they are not space truckers. Does it make the movie better if the look is grimy and rough? If there is someone to blame it's Apple for this sort of slick and polished look in sci-fi. And lets face it, you are talking about movies that came out 30 years ago, things have moved on from then. Today we have thin LCDs, why would a spaceship in the far future all of a sudden have a monochromatic CRT? Maybe it's the nostalgia talking.

  8. Bump for new pix and bonus ass from trailer.

To draw conclusions about this picture on how the movie will look is probably premature. It looks like a production photo and it doesn't have the digital color grading that is inevitable with movies, so it will probably look much different. And watching The Hobbit production diaries they mentioned that they need to consider that some colors don't work so well in the digital medium and therefor use much more powerful colors on their sets.

As for the aestheritcs (Mass Effect-y, which is not a bad thing) I have no trouble with it since this is about well-funded expedition looking for humanities start or something similarly epic. Still excited about this movie.

    Bonus ass (Charlize Theron's?)

Biokinetics originally came out in 1998, and combined original productions with most of the tracks from Porter Ricks' first three EPs, which had come out two years earlier on the Basic Channel sub-label Chain Reaction. The new reissue on Type is the same as the original but with new artwork. It will be available in a run of 700 vinyl copies, with a CD release to follow sometime in 2012.

    Sweet news.

  10. We've never seen what ultra-slick and modern looks like in the Alien universe. We've only seen space truckers, weathered space marines and a grimy prison planet (Alien Resurrection does not exist).

which makes it even more unbelievable that it's a prequel. The more we go into the past the more sheen and clean things get? It doesn't work for me at all. It's not as bad but similar to how the Phantom Menace and the star wars prequels felt more futuristic than the original trilogy. Prequels are a bad idea. I can't believe ridley scott did one.

But the difference is that this crew is a well-funded expedition and as I said, we have not yet seen what the state of the art tech looks like in the Alien universe. In fact, I think it would look even more stupid if they had 70s style computers that fill a room complete with Christmas lights blinking and monochrome CRTs dumping a bunch of numbers.

And as for the Star Wars prequels, the reason I heard for it looking more slick than the original trilogy is that it was in a time of high prosperity and it's been on a decline ever since the Empire got established who monopolized all the cool shit for its nefarious needs.

I think people are getting too bent out of shape from a minute long trailer and production stills. I for one am not bothered by the difference in tech aesthetics, just because it makes sense from the reasons I stated earlier.
