Aphex Twin & Stakker - Westworld (1995)
By MadameChaos in Aphex Twin
Year: 1995
Playtime: 80 min
Genre: contemporary art, Electronic, IDM, Chillout, Downtempo
Staker & Aphex Twin - Westworld is an experimental video released in 1995 by Warp Records. The music is made by Aphex Twin (comes from "Selected Ambient Works Volume II" album) and video side is made by Stakker = Mark McClean and Colin Scott. This one was requested some time ago and one of my friends had it. It is a VHSRiP (recorded back in 90's from MTV Chillout Zone) converted into DVD with a pretty cool custom made menu.
Tracklist:

Squarepusher - Endless Flamethrower
By MadameChaos in Squarepusher
March has been a busy month for Squarepusher, having just released the 3 track Enstrobia EP on Warp Records, invited his fans to remix the track '4001' and next week playing the largest 'UFABAULUM LIVE' show to date at the Roundhouse in Camden, London.
As if that wasn't enough the welding mask wearing maestro has now unveiled a career spanning mix in 'Endless Flamethrower v1.0' which is set to be the second of a series of 'Horizontal Slices' through his career that he's planning to release.
"This mix, following on from Instantium Hardphace last year, is the second of a series of what I call 'horizontal slices.' The idea is that there are several long running 'themes' in my work -in other words, groups of pieces across time that partake of some kind of stylistic commonality.
So whilst any given group will draw from nearly twenty years of releases, it will have an aesthetic unity that individual albums have often shunned. Of course, it's up to the listener to make sense (or otherwise) of what that aesthetic may be!"

FADER Clark Mix 2014
By MadameChaos in Clark
You never quite know what will turn up in your inbox when you commission a FADER Mix, and that's half the fun. Sometimes it's carefully curated glimpse into an artist's record collection and, occasionally, it's more like a rummage through their brain. UK electronic music artist Clark—who released his debut album on Warp Records in 2001 and is currently gearing up for his seventh, self-titled long-player on the legendary label this November 3rd—is firmly of the latter camp, having created a number of tracks especially for this mix. It kicks off with a windswept, kinda haunting Kanye and Jay Z acapella, rolls through snippets of a David Attenborough documentary about spiders, and includes an untitled modular jam by the man himself. Plus, of course, there's plenty of gold from the likes of Lukid, Surgeon, DJ Godfather, and the late LFO. Listen below, and scroll down to find out what keeps Clark motivated after all these years, and what he thinks of the guy who came up with the genre descriptor IDM.
How did you approach your FADER Mix, and what's on it? All of my favorite things, lots of unreleased bits and bobs of mine, a remix I did of some of my favorite acapellas, mixed with my own music. I wrote quite a lot of fresh material for this. It took ages but I tend to bite off more than I can chew—it's pared down from about 200 mp3 purchases over the last month—if you don't bite off more than you can chew then you never really feel satisfied. I have a huge trash folder now full of the chewed bits that didn't quite work. Damn. But this mix is all of the bits that did. Oh, there is also and a naturalist section in the middle about spiders, it's sort of erotic music for spiders.

Clark Mixmag In Session
By MadameChaos in Clark
Fans of Clark rejoiced when he announced the release of his self-titled album in September.
His seventh in total - the first being 'Clarence Park' in 2001 - the Berlin-based producer once again steps out for the Warp Records team with an LP teeming with abrasive textures and brutal beats, yet still leaving space for glowing melodies and harmonious synth calls. 'Winter Linn' rattles hard like a pneumatic drill, while 'The Grit In The Pearl' encapsulates its title perfectly, finding a balance between rugged kicks and shining, eyes-wide-open euphoria.
Listen to all of his albums and EPs and you'll come across all sorts. Chiseled techno, abstract electronica, drone and dreamy lo-fi soundscapes are just a handful of elements in his work. With every single one of his releases coming on Warp in 13 years, it's no surprise he has so much scope for musical freedom and this has without doubt contributed to him being one of the most forward-thinking, innovative producers in British electronic music.
With his album out now, he's stepped up for this week's In Session. As with his release history, this mix doesn't just conform to one sound or genre. Floaty and delicate in places, but tough and mechanical in others, Clark's offered a real treat with tracks from Leon Vynehall, Seven Davis Jr, Truss and a bunch of unreleased cuts from himself.
Clark/Manhunter - Every Single Day
Clark - Unfurla (Alt Version)

Boards of Canada - Peel Session
By MadameChaos in Boards of Canada
Boards of Canada's Peel Session is a recording of their 21 July 1998 broadcast on BBC Radio 1 for wikipedia:John Peel's radio program. It features significantly different takes of both Aquarius and Olson. The version of Happy Cycling that we see on this release is not the same as what was actually broadcast, here we find the polished version that also appears as an extra track on Music Has The Right To Children and the broadcast version formerly known as Bad Day being dropped.
There is a great deal of misunderstanding about the nature and timing of this recording, in part because of the surfacing of an unreleased track on peer-to-peer networks entitled "XYZ." This track appears to have been a part of the Peel Session but was strangely omitted from the track listing of the official release. "XYZ" in its full 9:38 cut (shortened versions still circulate) includes an exchange both before and after the track between John Peel and Boards of Canada.
Peel Sessions normally consisted of four tracks which were recorded in advance in the BBC recording studio and broadcast at a later date when the band were not present. Sometimes bands played live on the programme, but they were not referred to as Peel Sessions. The BoC session was unusual because they were in the BBC recording studio recording their session at the same time as the Peel programme was on air. This meant that they could have a live link-up with BoC in the recording studio, and that's when the interview took place. They played XYZ live on the programme at that time (16-6-98 ), but that was the only track they played and the mp3 of XYZ with the interview really is the whole thing. The complete Peel Session was broadcast on 21-7-98 with all 4 tracks, but the band were not present and there was no interview.
