Yep, pretty good news man. It was already a strange couple of days leading up to this Most Awesome news :) Yeah, I've been cancer free for a quarter of a century next May. I've been pain free for almost 20 years since I've been vaporizing, smoking and ingesting various forms of cannabis daily :) I've never been on opiates. I'm just tired of always trying to find my cannabis medicine every couple of weeks while hiding the fact that I use it for medicinal purposes. Getting ripped off a couple times a year, even though I explain I'm in remission from cancer or I get sub standard (just plain shite or wet) cannabis because I don't have another source to choose from. Two decades of the same over and over. It's time to stop. The chemotherapy and radiation damaged my body and when I don't have cannabis I cannot function because of the pain. The CPI news release really made me cry a lot this morning and seems to be continuing into this afternoon. And I don't cry very often! Awesome, it's finally happening for those in chronic pain here in Ireland :) CPI instrumental in securing Licence from Minister of Health to treat chronic pain with Cannabis November 17th, 2017 Press Release Chronic Pain Ireland announces that their National Secretary, William McLoughlin BL, was fundamental in the securing of a licence from the Minister of Health to import, possess, supply, prescribe and administer Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a psychotropic cannabinoid and the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis, to be used in the treatment of an extreme case of severe chronic pain. A three month licence was granted on foot of an application made directly to the Minister for Health under section 14 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, in accordance with Part 3, Section 6 of The Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2017 (Statutory Instrument 173 of 2017), by a medical professional for the treatment of severe chronic pain. At the time of applying, there was no set procedure in place and the application was developed by pre-empting any concerns or objections by the Department of Health. The application, upon which the licence was granted, specified that the THC would not be consumed via smoking. The specified medical professional would administer a starting dose, monitor the patient and adjust the dose accordingly. In the absence of Department of Health guidelines on the use of medicinal cannabis, the Dutch Office of Medicinal Cannabis guidelines were used as a starting reference for dosage, usage, etc. The patient would be under constant medical supervision. The licence granted the importation of THC from one of two suppliers: 1. The Office of Medicinal Cannabis, Postbus 16114, 2500 BC Den Haag, The Netherlands 2. Tilray, 1100 Maughan Road, Nanaimo, BC, V9X 1J2, Canada. A draft copy of the application process is viewable here and this can be used as a basis for any application to the Minister for Health. Chronic Pain Ireland believes that access to medicinal cannabis or THC under medical supervision can be used as a method of treating chronic pain. Chronic Pain Ireland will make this announcement at its 25th Anniversary Celebrations on Sunday 19th November 2017 from 2-5pm at the Academy Plaza Hotel, 10-14 Findlater Place, off Upper O'Connell Street, Dublin 1.
