ffx/x-2 were the last ff games i could stomach. really miss rpgs w/o voiceovers

Yep me too - Though Ni No Kuni does a pretty good job even that sometimes slips into the naffness. Whereas text only RPGs the writing usually seems more palatable.

listened to ni no in japanese to spare myself. really wish more rpgs were like zelda in regards to voiceover.

only games i've really been able to tolerate were mgs and even those aren't as strong as they used to be.

oh and pat stew in lords of shadow even thought the writing was redonk

  2. I assume PT was made especially cryptic and not in a "this representative of how cryptic the game is going to be in general" kind of way to allow some extra mileage out of such a short game (it's legit like, 1 or 2ish rooms yeah?).

yeah, at the end of p.t. there's a disclaimer that states that it's not representative of silent hills. i enjoyed the hell out of it for what it was. def recommended if you have a ps4 and decent sound system. i managed to steer clear of any spoilers/walkthroughs before playing it.

got a good deal on ground zeroes and wolfenstein. popped in gz and realized that i def need to beat peacewalker before i play it. haven't played wolfy yet

  3. had some friends over last nite and played sport friends on ps4 for the first time. barbariball and the polevaulting game were pretty damn fun (was inebriated). afterwards was at a loss for enough wireless controllers w/batteries for any console so ended up playing mario party 6 through wii. offline multiplayer>online multiplayer

  4. i would actually buy the ps4 port if it were cross buy and cloud save w/vita. i have so many split up half started games on various platforms it'd be nice to consolidate to the ps4/vita. also really hoping msoft doesn't respond to the sfv and try to get tekken exclusivity. have no interest in entering the xbox ecosystem. also hate playing conventional videogames on pc and would no doubt have to upgrade to be able to run it.

  5. GTA has kind of moved beyond the whole senseless killing thing a while ago. Of course you can still do that, but... The worlds are incredibly detailed and in GTA V, where the whole map is unlocked from the start, you could in theory play it without killing anyone. Buy your vehicles etc.

can you complete the story without killing anyone?

i got over glamorized violence a while ago and have enjoyed attempting no kill runs in violent games since mgs 2

i still haven't beaten gta4 but all of the characters seemed pretty scummy in my recollection. are any of the three characters in gta5 redeemable?

  6. Godammit - I hate GTA with a passion, but these visuals are sooo impressive, it kinda makes me want to play.

Been playing a TON of games during the holiday break (well, a ton for me and my limited playtime):

Geometry Wars 3: Fun, hard and awesome! Music and visuals are really good.

Binding of Issac: Rebirth - finally "got" it, and can't stop doing runs to see what crazy shit I'll get

Rayman Legends: So amazing - visuals, sound, music, characters - honestly, the modern Raymans (Origins and Legends) are waaaay better than any Mario game (!) - more challenging, more fun, and way more creative (IMO).

I also finally picked up Last of Us: Remastered for 20 bucks, but won't start that until I block out a good chunk of time to play it properly...

yeah, boi finally clicked for me too over tsgiving weekend. was at about a -13 streak before beating the initial stages with azazel (holy shit his shooting sound is annoying). still haven't beaten mom's heart. spent what little time i had to play this weekend switching between boi, cod2k14 online, and starcraft 1 campaign (finished terran and started on zerg).

  7. picked up starcraft heart of the swarm for $10. so far a good investment.

played the guilty gear demo. looks awes, but man, trying to input 3 and 4 button commands on a pad is absolute garbage. especially when there's no button buffering like in tekken.

saw on slickdeals that apparently amazon had a brief resupply of gc adapters for $19.99 but they quickly sold out due to resellers scooping them all up :(

Played Smash Bros Friday and part of Saturday - fun, especially with multiple players, but I fear it's Mario Kart all over again - fun for the first few weeks unlocking things, then it gets stale fast.

Went back to Binding of Issac - still fun, still trying to unlock all the characters.

Played some Resogun (still fun after all this time and still one of the PS4 best shumps) in preparation for Geometry Wars 3 that comes out tomorrow - looks fantastic, and I was always jealous of the XBOX crowd for having the first two games.

Supposedly we'll also get a Guilty Gear Xrd Sign demo for PS4 - I want to try it and see if it is as fun as BlazBlue.

The new guilty gear looks so pretty. Did you see the Blazblue finals at EVO this year by chance? It was absolutely crazy.

No, I didn't - hook us up with some YouTube love, mang!

supposedly the skullgirls dev has created drivers for most ps3 sticks to work with ps4. hopefully these can be patched into most games although i imagine companies like madcatz may pay devs not to implement them so they can sell new sticks. really don't want to have to buy a new one for this gen.

    evo2k14 blazblue finals:

regarding ds2, are you missing out by not playing through demon's souls or ds1 before jumping into ds2? i'd probably grip the ps4 version for <$25 eventually but i've not played through either of the previous entries

not a huge fan of 2d (mainly play tekken) but i'm totally gonna jump on that xrd demo 'cause it looks so beautimous. spent the whole weekend playing irl mtg with the old lady. popped in cod for all of 20 minutes. hoping for smash bros as a bday/xmas gift from someone ;O

not done anything w/wii u online 'cause it seems so gimped by being wifi only. you guys using the built in wifi or did you get a lan adapter? is there a preferred adapter?

The Wii LAN adapter will work, as will most USB 2.0 LAN adapters for laptops. On Amazon, this is the one I've been thinking about getting:

    ordered ;O

is there some primer or something that details what the different items do in binding of isaac? i couldn't even find a control layout anywhere so i just assumed the only buttons were move, cry, and bomb.

    http://bindingofisaacrebirth.gamepedia.com/Binding_of_Isaac:_Rebirth_Wiki

I don't think all the items have been fully identified yet, but most are.

thx, but i meant in game. i usually try to stay away from wikis/gamefaqs until i've beaten a game. i guess the not knowing what stuff does is part of the fun/challenge? it's a fun thing to throw up when i only feel like spending a few minutes on something. about how long does it take to clear a game and beat mom's heart? so far i've only made it to like the third level or so
