  1. internet has been out at the house since last thursday (supposed to have a tech out tonite). loaded up a half beaten shadow of the colossus hd file this weekend and tore through that and started replaying the original starcraft campaign which had me jonesing to go even further back to play through warcraft 2 but i can't seem to find any official channels to get it.

    zug zug

  2.

playing strider has made me really want a new igarashi metroidvania

Hell yes - I'd love to see a HD 2.5D Castelvania (none of that 3D nonsense).

    i don't even want 2.5d

    gimme sprites or gimme death

Sprites are nice, but in the right context - but hand-drawn HD stuff is amazing when done right.

i always hate how hand drawn stuff usually only illustrates a handful of frames then the separate out the parts and do that ugly flash style hinge joint and inflation effect to create movement (ie dust, dragons crown, etc.)

don't know if it's 2.5 or what you'd call the animation style, but i really like the way the animation is being done for guilty gear xrd. 3d models broken up into 2d style animations. looks fuckin' dope

  3. beat strider. died a couple of times on meios regular but beat prime on the first attempt. solid game. probably won't try to platinum. the only games i've ever platinumed have been the tekken games. all the blizzcon news over the last few days has kind made me get a boner for heart of the swarm campaign. built my pc specifically to be able to play sc2 when it first dropped a few years ago but never picked up hots.

  4.

enjoying strider for ps4. feel like i'll clear it pretty soon. main thing that bugs me is the weird ambiguity of the foreground/background elements and how dark everything is. guess it saves tons of budget to just make everything black/grey.

Try adjusting your screen brightness (in the game options) - there's a lot of detail in the background you are missing out on.

It's a pretty long game - if you're trying to complete it 100%, you won't look forward trying to clear it on Hard (I finally gave up/lost interest ages ago)

will try that when i get home.

by "clear" i just meant beat it on normal. opened up the final temple last nite before bed so could probably get through it pretty easy this evening. do you have to complete looking for collectibles entering the temple or will it allow you to go back and complete it after you've beaten meios? is there a new game+ or just hard mode?

  5. friends kept pushing me to read something called quantum thief. struggled through the first chapter half of which was incomprehensible. finally started making a little sense but the bath water was getting cold :cerious:

  6. lol at "brought down bryan singer."

advanced warfare mp is fine/fun. can't remember if i've always kept auto aim off or on (it defaults to on and i switched it off and i'm doing terrible now). probably just making things harder on myself. robo suits add some interesting new dyanmics to the game.

sucks that there don't really seem to be any small maps though.

  7. Upstream Color - 7/10 - had potential but edgy stylishness (like Primer) wasn't quite enough to compensate for the lacking a narrative to explain wtf is going on.

Tree of Life - 7.5 - a grand visual exercise which worked well within each separate story but not quite sure it worked together, the CGI dinosaurs looked shit.

The American Astronaut - 8.5/10 - enjoyable quirky film noir with musical elements. The silliness does away with any pretentiousness although it just kinda ends in a strange place.

Troll 2 - best worst cult b movie.

The Host - 8.5/10 - great monster movie, same director as Snow Piercer.

Enemies Closer - 6.5/10 - never pretends to be what it isn't and Van Damme is well worth a watch as a vegan psychopath.

The Battery 9/10 - decent original Zombie filk and a good comedy horror to boot. Best low budget indie flick I've seen in a while.

The Machine - 8.5/10 - decent budget British cyberpunk movie, very almost a classic.

Beyond the Black Rainbow - 10/10 - surreal super stylish collage homage to all the fave cult sci-fi which is as good as the sum of it's parts imho, fucking awesome soundtrack too. Best watched late at night.

if you liked the host and snowpiercer you should def see mother. totally different narrative but same director and imho his best movie. 10/10

saw whiplash last nite. iunno... 6.5/10? it's a bit one note (huk). jk simmons is pretty great and there were a few times throughout the movie were i felt some genuine anxiety. my old lady was exhausted by the end of it. she gets engrossed much easier than me though. i just felt some of the themes were hammered to death. trailers spoil too many good moments in movies.

  8.

    nightcrawler 6.5/10

the score is abysmal. completely distracts from some pretty cool shots performances.

Damn, I was really looking forward to this.

saw it with two friends. one of which felt the exact same about the score and one who didn't notice anything and was sufficiently creeped out by it. it's entertaining i think. 6.5/10 isn't that bad of a score is it? ;)

  9. so apparently gamestop is allowing tradeins of ps3s for $125 credit towards ps4. thinkin' about doing that with my oldest fat 60gb which barely gets used and scooping advanced murder simulator. don't think i could get equal $$$ selling it on craigslist or ebay and less hassle. time to crack current gen.

besides cod and hoarded psplus games can't think of much i'd want beyond mgs5 demo, d3 mad spooky edition, and nidhogg.
