  1. LOL on a few levels @ understanding the existing research being "the Soviet technique."
  2. I've seen the 18+ side of Aliexpress. This technology definitely already exists.
  3. Seems like I keep deliberately making my sequencing workflows worse. This month I'm getting set up to sequence on an Atari ST that's on the opposite side of the room from my master keyboard because it was the only place I could fit a desk for it. EDIT: as far as good sequencing I've still never found anything that beats the MPC2000xl for pattern based linear sequencing, and the MIDIbox SEQ for step sequencing. Those are the two I actually use all the time.
  4. Good interview, but also funny that his writing style is a lot more like My Immortal than I expected.
  5. Awesome, I've never had my hands on that stuff but the early Symetrix stuff (that was essentially also valley People IIRC) is generally great.
  6. I wish there was a minimal, high quality, ACTIVE monitor controller that didn't cost $800+. All I need is clean buffering, level calibration for every instrument, and the ability to select between 2-3 inputs and route them to 2-3 outputs with popless relay switching. There are kits, but even those are more expensive than they really need to be, and the more affordable commercial units Iv'e tried are all pretty terrible.
  7. Last three: Sometimes I can't help myself, I just really love pickled peppers.
  8. I remember the really old versions of Wavelab (I think 4 or 5) did this, but that's also why I stopped using Wavelab for a while - because every time it tried to scan my hard drive it would crash. When I finally started using it again for work in the early 2010s there was hardly anything I used it for that I couldn't do faster in Reaper (with more stability and lower overhead). I haven't really bothered to use Reaper's metadata editing capabilities since I don't work with samples in software very often, so I don't know if they're deep enough for what you want to do, but they exist https://reaper.blog/2021/11/metadata-editing-in-reaper/ Also you can always save your files with embedded markers.
  9. This is something I never thought I'd see: the KLF ripping off Green Jello. EDIT: I guess they were already kind of doing what The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo did in the 70s, though. I love the KLF, but their music and performances aren't really what's most interesting about them for me (entertaining as hell, though). Their particular flavor of antagonism to the entertainment industry is the real meat of it, the actual music and shows are mostly a vehicle for that. Plus Bill Drummond is a good writer. Who Killed the KLF is pretty good, WAY better than I expected (I tried to watch Chris Atkins' previous documentary and it was kind of trash. Woould have been pretty good if it was made in 1988, but in 2008 it felt heavy handed and pointless so I went into the KLF one with low expectations). https://archive.org/details/20220703-1810-who-killed-the-klf
  10. Hooked my old D-110 and PG-10 up again yesterday. I can't believe I almost sold them to raise money for a Hydrasysth, what was I thinking? Honestly, I've got a new 1tb SSD coming to replace my old recording drive, I finally got a good price on a Unitor for the Atari ST so I can start using Notator finally, and I've got an Atari HDD to SD adapter on the way. Other than more hard drives and a SATA to CFAST cable I can't think of a single piece of gear I need or want (unless someone has an original Arp 2500 or something they're looking to give away for free, obviously). I guess more/better cables and some day I'd like to replace the Amatek power conditioners I got cheap on eBay with the step up model that has full ground isolation, but it's really not that big a deal. umm I'd like to get my old Sunn amp, acoustic guitar and TX-802 professionally repaired - they're all a bit beyond what I ahve the tools and experience to do myself without a serious chance of making things worse. EDIT: a good band saw, that's the thing I want. I had a shitty band saw that I gave away when I moved to a smaller apartment years ago, and you never realize how useful a band saw is until you have one and then don't have one.
  11. Haven't heard a counterargument to the Chinese room that's even vaguely convincing yet. Actual AI is like a washing machine, it lets us automate siple, repetative tasks that machines are suited to, and that's it - but for the tasks it's suited to, that's more than enough.
  12. I am on FIRE this morning (also, I got a pretty good Tetris score)
  13. Gotta eat more fiber if I'm going to finally break through to level 14.
  14. I put a Gameboy Color in the bathroom last month and ate a lot of spicy food this month, so I've been playing a whole lot of Tetris. Broke 130,000 on level 8 this afternoon.
