  1. You can treat any image as a 3-channel 8bit waveform as well (or a mono 24-bit one). :) I also feel I need to make this happen.
  2. That's what I meant too. Basically it seems that you can just read the BMP straight into some array like it was plain text, so it would make it more easy in Max/Pd - otherwise you'd need a library to uncompress & read the PNG or have some other rube goldberg process to read the colors into your sequence. That's what I'd do anyway. For bonus points if the sequencer is clever, you can load any picture into the thing and just have fun like that.
  3. PNG is a bit tricky because it is a compressed file, editing in photoshop might mess up whatever structure you got set up. However, if I recall correctly, BMP should allow for uncompressed formats, so you can load/save both your sequences and the stuff you do in photoshop without too much fuckery. There was another video where the guy actually made a working tunnel visualization thing by just drawing correct stuff in Paint, but I can't find that video anymore.
  4. In case someone wants to blow their retirement fund, here's some archived AKAI MPCs and E-MUs. https://tokyo.craigslist.jp/msg/d/akai-mpcs-and-samplers/6666020470.html?lang=en&cc=us
  5. If all goes well, I am selling my old MicroKey and Launchpad today. The money I get from that is probably close to nothing but it feels good to get rid of extra gear. I have had the launchpad for the longest time, but I figure that if I ever need anything like that I go get the small version instead.
  6. I have a MPK Mini that I assumed (for some weird reason) would have the same kind of pads as the actual good MPC-s, but that's probably a huge misconception. Besides it has only 8 pads which is not enough really.
  7. This seems pretty sweet - the biggest snag (aside from the price, holy fucc 866 pounds for the diy version on my keyboard!) seems to be how to actually map all this stuff to the VSTs or sound modules, but on the other hand I guess this will be taken care of by the software. On the subject of being expressive with an instrument though... I totally get why it is easy to express with a guitar or any tactile instrument, because all that stuff is sort of "built in" in your fingers and bones and there is no clunky digital interface in the way that quantizes everything into 127 values. After all that's why I spent a bunch of time getting myself a more tactile master keyboard and somehow actually managed to shoehorn the huge thing into my ikea shelf setup so it is actually more roomier than it used to be. As a drummer I would also really like some sort of thing to hit in a more tactile way to make the samples come alive somehow. On the other hand, a part of me says that the expressiveness is also somewhat learnable if all you're doing is turning knobs somewhere, it's just that you have to find the correct knob, but you can absolutely get somewhere close with that, especially if you're playing a melody or something with the other hand. After all you use 2 hands with the guitar (and a foot if you're working the expression pedal).
  8. I live on the ground floor so whilst cool, I also suffer from ungodly amount of damp even in the 35 degree summer. I bought a dehumidifier over the winter. If I don't use it for a few days, even during the summer when it's not rained for 6 weeks, my hygrometer is up towards 70/75. I put it on when I go off to work, and come back and it's around 50. Admittedly it also means it's fairly hot due to it being a dehumidifier but you can really tell the difference and I'm hoping my gear appreciates it. Can't have vintage gear without a bit of mold on it! :) This is our dark future in man made climate change.
  9. You should be sitting in full lotus position anyway to release all the IDMs from your chakras.
  10. It looks good. Makes me think about getting a tape recorder as well. You probably use it for mastering and summing the final mixes, right?
  11. If it makes you feel any better, my new MBP's keyboard is going to have to be replaced for the second time this year. I am not sure what model yours is but it seems we both suffer from some guy's delusion that having a thinner laptop is always desirable and better.
  12. Thanks for the tips, if it keeps bothering me, I'll do something more about it. Yesterday playing it didn't bother me too much, I guess it's not really so present in an air conditioned room especially if you don't go out of your way to smell it up close. It's a really good keyboard though, happy I got it.
  13. Got my Roland A33 today, feels great to have a real keyboard again. I tried playing some scales but I am rusty as hell. The only downside to the thing is that it's obviously been owned by a smoker in the past, so if anyone has any good tips for removing that awful smell, please let me know. :)
  14. What do you mean you don't know what to do with a talky synth? There's plenty to do with a talky synth, just look at all the psytrance!
  15. Thanks a lot, I got all three referrals now! Let's see how deep the rabbit hole goes. :)
  16. My A33 has shipped. Once it shows up in a functional order, I'll be selling my MicroKey and Launchpad. Finally a real keyboard.. let's not get hopes up too much though. :)
  17. Thanks whoever clicked on my referral link, just 2 more and I'm on board. http://www.endlesss.fm/?r=eoAWQ Probably might as well make some dummy e-mail addresses and be done with it, as I don't really like the pyramid scheme-y "refer 3 more friends and you win" aspect.
  18. Bonus points if it's got neural networks somewhere in it to have that maximum the future is now disregard the man behind the curtain hype.
  19. I am pretty skeptical really because it sort of sounds like this blue sky "we will unify and standardise everyone's creative process" dream project which is probably doomed to fail like every software idea that has ever tried to create a General Solution For Anything (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Xanadu). Like if you write a program that can do anything, then you probably end up with an all-purpose program which requires a really complex specification to get it to do something concrete, at which point you will have to invent a specification language for your all-purpose program which in effect makes writing the specification pretty much equivalent to programming again, and it becomes easier to make something from scratch to do what you want. Personally I have noted this pathologic behaviour that once I finish building some gear setup and hooking all the MIDIs and arpeggiators and sequencers up in software, immediately I begin to focus on what the system can not do and try to add the new functions instead of just playing the damn thing. And every time I add more features, actually using the system becomes harder (especially if you don't practice). I imagine with simple hardware this problem doesn't really exist because you can't easily modify the existing gear (aside from ordering new stuff). With this Endlesss project I am curious if they've managed to somehow solve this problem of balancing the need to add more features and making everything usable, or is it more likely that some time down the road they will realise that they just made a system with which you can really easily make Tim Exile type music. :) Of course I am projecting all my ideas and visions on this project without really knowing what it is. :)
  20. This seems like something interesting, I used cear's link to sign up. If they've got 3 referrals already, maybe spare a few for me too plz. http://www.endlesss.fm/?r=eoAWQ Building a workflow that lets me be creative without thinking about technical stuff too much has been my thing for the last year or so, so this thing resonates somewhat.
  21. 600$ http://fiveg.net/?pid=132834807 I temporarily fought off my gas by building a nice ambient reverby rack in Live and half-finished wiring up an LFO in the Pure Data patch to modulate things in my external synths. It's been real bad the last couple of weeks because I keep ordering and bidding on stuff even though the last batch even has not arrived. Sure, it was just a bunch of 1/4" to 1/8" adapters and mic clips, but here I am waiting for my Roland A33 and checking out even other new gear on these damn websites. Feels like it will get worse unless I do some serious self disciplining.
  22. Yeah it's been getting really bad over the last couple of weeks. Really bad...
  23. I found a Jomox T-Resonator on CL, seems like a really fun thing to have for effects and ambient wobbles, but I don't really want more outboard gear that I have to figure out how to connect.. this demo is pretty good though:
  24. Basically what the Rimforsa did for me is it allowed me to have my Livid Code and Korg MS2000R in a more vertical position so that they took way less horizontal space on the desk and also became more usable without having to crouch over them to see whatever is going on with the blinky lights. Also since the cables stick out from the top side it's easier to patch stuff into the MS2000R-s inputs and hey all the cables make it seem like some pro knob twiddling station. I checked out that website you linked, and too bad that they only make enclosures for a couple of the newer models, it's interesting stuff.
  25. What's the orange box in the middle?
