  1. I have thought about making my own stuff (or modifying the existing ones) as the basic modules are all open source. But on the other hand it is C++ and going down the rabbit hole will absolutely steal a lot of time.
  2. I remember testing on my 9yo macbook pro a while back. Running some sample Reaktor Blocks things I think I got an error even loading some of it. VCV ran fine, but then I did not make anything insane either.
  3. All the rest of my stuff is somewhere on a container ship now. Hopefully I will see it again in a month or two.
  4. Nice live-coding you got going there. If you need a faster CPU for this I wonder what's it sound like. ?
  5. This makes me feel so much better about my cable pile, thanks!
  6. Nice, I am using the same DAW software too!
  7. Now that I got it syncing nicely with Live through Carabiner, it was really fun to jam around with the patterns and cycles. I wish it could run without having SuperCollider open in the background (I suppose sclang should be able to execute the SuperDirt startup from command line?). Also there seem to be some technical difficulties - Live stopped recording at some point abruptly; the whole computer crashed at final render and also had the issue where Link was somehow resetting the playhead (I hit Live's play button but the arrangement would never get to the 2nd measure - weird). Not sure if any of those issues are due to TidalCycles or some MIDI feedback somewhere... My Roland XV-5080 is also hooked up through optical cable so there may be some syncing issues there. I made this week's weekly jam completely in TidalCycles (record MIDI to Live and then cut and render). https://streak.club/p/35199/sun-2-jun-by-thawkins
  8. A ha this sounds much more promising than the TidalLink from random Github repository. Will try it out, thanks! Edit: big thanks! Got it to work no hassle.
  9. Getting back into this thing. I managed to get VSCode up and running sending MIDI to Live, but still how do I get Tidal to receive sync FROM Ableton. I tried out that TidalLink thing, which connects nicely to Live's Link but then completely fails to affect any MIDI coming from Tidal itself. ? If anyone managed to get this to work, could you share the code? Maybe it is just simpler to make Live the slave...
  10. My interface can do ADAT too but I do not want to go down the rabbit hole of suddenly having "room" for 8 more tracks of I/O. Probably good if I ever get a studio with a drum kit though...
  11. I bought an optical cable to hook up my Roland XV-5080. Also 2 MIDI cables to hook the other stuff up too. So far happy with the XV-5080 although I have not had a lot of time to get into it. The editor runs nicely through wine too, though the way I have daisy chained my things is giving some errors sometimes.
  12. I figured it is some kind of analog mixer strip deal yeah. These always look so nice, but I am afraid that if I ever get to the stage of getting EQs and compressors like that, I end up even poorer than with eurorack... Would be interesting to play around and see how it sounds though.
  13. What is the knob box beneath your audio interface? Also sorry to hear about neighbors/shitty walls. Recently I am mostly making music and mixing on headphones too as I don't get too much alone time at home and. Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro have real good bass response, would recommend. Good stuff on your bancdamp too. ?
  14. I think there are easier ways to achieve that warm low-fifi sound.
  15. I wish I got sent to jazz camp.
  16. Damn this stuff looks really good...
  17. Hey thanks for sharing your experience, sounds like something nice for my small studio. I currently have a Korg MicroX that I use basically as a sound module like that, but that one does not fit neatly in a rack. I have already sampled all the drums off it (or most of them) so should be well prepared for the bad drums on XV-5080. Just out of curiosity, have you ever tried to use an editor for the XV-5080? I found something called Patch Base and it seems really good (but only for iPad) https://coffeeshopped.com/patch-base
  18. Does anyone have experience with Roland XV-5080? I have been thinking about downsizing my stuff and getting some cool multi timbral rack module that does basic stuff like sampled pianos and old trance/hip hop presets.
  19. I got a SM57 yesterday, now I can get a new XLR cable and record stuff as a "stereo pair" (with my SM58).
  20. Tape a cheap fan to it in order to do FM synthesis.
  21. We had one at the rehearsal space for recording our psych stoner rock band stuff. I liked that mixer, it always felt rock solid and no frills - totally something that you could learn to use and work with. You could route so many things in so many different ways and the manual was a joy to read. I also read Prodigy used these on stage too. If I was looking for a hardware mixer for my setup I would definitely get one of those.
  22. That's pretty neat, thanks. One day soon I will get over learning Push and back into live coding sequences too, but not yet... Last time I tried TidalCycles I could not even figure out how to send basic MIDI.. I guess I even got stuck at setting up VSCode as the text editor. Probably too exhausted from writing code all day at work. :)
  23. I wish the Volca Sample would have pattern chaining. There is some kind of Song mode but you can't mess with the parameters when this is active so it loses half the fun.
  24. I've seen AMT a few times and played a show with them a while back. At the one where I opened, the SH09 had broken in NYC the night before and they were using a Monotron taped to the top of it and to be honest the way they use it there was hardly any difference. Yeah the way they use it is really you can put any other thing with some cutof knobs there and play with it the same way. It just takes skill and time to know your instrument.
