slow forward - Excellent organ solos, really evocative of a 70’s Krautrock vibe. Great counterplay between the multiple organ voices.

Cheers! Thanks a lot, and glad you enjoyed it. Trying to get better at this week by week, and it's really nice to hear that I am having at least some success.

If you stick around for the coming weeks, we also do a weekly livestream each Tuesday at 8.30 central europe time (which is some ungodly time at night in Australia probably but you can check out recordings in the tumblr link in my signature). Its got visuals too!

  2. Sorry, I wanted to write more in my previous post but forgot to.

I think I wrote about cans because it's a way way more cheaper investment than monitors. Personally I have had HS8's in the past and I really liked them (especially listening to music on them), but I am not so sure whether they are so good for accurate monitoring.

So I would go with the APS if you are torn between the two.

For a 3rd option, now I am using Neumann KH120A which are also surprisingly nice and I have no feeling like I need more low end. Those are more in the price category of the APS so should be similar.

  3. For headphones, I continue to swear by Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80ohm coupled with the Sonarworks Reference EQ normalization software to make the frequency response flat. I.e. it turns your headphones into a more "reference" mode where you hear things more accurately. Since the Beyerdynamics have a pretty beefy low end, this is ideal for me - I can hear everything nicely and the Sonarworks filter makes the low end less boomy.

  4. Just more 2 cents on this topic is that it does not make a lot of sense to display the contents of the 1st post of the thread, because well that never changes, especially for long megathreads. Maybe it would be more interesting to see a snapshot of the first unread post or how many new posts since you last read the thread, or something else entirely.

If all this happened due to forum software update and it will be a pain to fix things like that manually, then yeah I guess it is easier to live with it. ?

I bet you can find a MIDI file somewhere with the full 127 MIDI notes played at multiple velocities for this exact purpose, so you don't have to make your own.  trimming the silence on each hit could probably be mostly automated in Reaper too, but depending on how many you have it might be easier to just zoom the waveforms vertically and then resize the clips and add fades where they're needed manually after you've done the splitting.

I did something like this years ago for my KORG MicroX and I still have the kits around, however this time around I wanted to have a more professional approach somehow.

I kind of hoped someone had made a thing which creates a Live drum kit automatically because I have like 20-30 presets in there that would be nice to have on hand as fully prepared kits. Doing anything manually adds up time quite fast at these numbers.

  6. Thanks.

Yeah I think I have to roll with something like that. I just remember that M4L device having options to sample at multiple velocities and automatically do fades and cut the samples to be as short as possible as to not contain silence and start with a transient etc etc.

Maybe past me was smart enough to at least get that device and its still around on my computer somewhere.

  7. Going crazy trying to find it with search.. but it is sampling related so I will resurrect this thread: there is/was an user on this board called Mesh Gear Fox (I think) who made M4L devices and particularly they made a thing for quick and easy sampling of hardware instruments.

A thousand thanks if anyone can point me to that M4L device. ?

Back when I saw it around I never had M4L but now I do and it sounds like thing I need for getting some nice drum sounds from my synths into Live so I can use my hardware for all the other cool sounds in there.

  8. Is it just me or the thread list visual design just got reaaaallly crowded and confusing to read? I kind of prefer the old way without thread first post message included in the list of threads/topics, but that's just my opinion, feel free to ignore. ?

Note especially the way overblown Guest usernames. Sample from the EKT forum.410795772_Screenshot2021-09-23at15_32_35.thumb.png.fa252cff87d81c6e32815b504eb06bc9.png

My last cat used to try to climb up my back and sit on my head when I was at the computer, which kind of sucked because he was 17 pounds.

Yes, this might happen to me this winter as the weather gets colder, clothes get thicker and climbing becomes easier.

  10. Twitter is a little bit too much doomscrolling (i.e. an endless stream of pointless arguments and bad news you can do nothing about, except join in and scream into the void), and to top it off they have recently started to nag you with a login screen so if you want to view stuff without getting an account you are in for a shitty experience.

This forced login bit has got to destroy any kind of "discovering music-art-things online" vibe.

Personally I have been thinking of setting up a Tumblr or a self hosted clone to just post soundcloud embeds and maybe some animated visuals every once and a while.

Quickly looked at these. I presume you're telling me to just make a decision and shut up?! Haha. The thing is that I'm deep into a song right now as is and will probbaly make a decision in a few months when I'm financially better off so yeah...

Also when you say "figuring out your set up", what do you mean exactly?

When I say "figuring out your set up" I mean googling things like "what type of RAM goes into this ASUS motherboard" and trying to understand which CPU-GPU-RAM-motherboard-case-PSU-cooler-cooler paste-LEDs-cables combination you need in order to get the best value for your money.

It's a good way to spend your time, because in the end you'll learn a lot about PC components and what to look for and how to troubleshoot any hardware/software driver issue that you may encounter. However the research and learning process takes time, so if I was in your shoes I would think whether I want to spend my time making music, or researching PC specs.

And yeah I wish I had the time to research PC specs, or learn soldering and electronics DIY or how to program reactive visuals or whatever cool thing you can name. Right now I only have time my day job and some music, so that's why I have accepted that I will pay more for premium stuff because I don't want to spend my time on something that maybe does not work.
