Plus I might mix the release up with Peel Sessions 2. Just imagine the confusion - I'd be telling such mishap anecdotes for years ....

This one has clear glossy text on it as well, on the physical.

The North American version of LP5 is just white with tracklist though :ok:

(which btw also added to the perception of the music :dadjoke:)

without trying to put sounds into images

If this were true there would be no images at all. Minimalist imagery does not equal no imagery. If they really wanted to abide by this philosophy, all the covers should be blank with just plain text. The TDR artwork absolutely puts images to the sounds, makes no difference if the image is simple or complex. All the artwork has had some influence on the perception of the music, it's kinda impossible not to.

  3. Good points. The large elseq print is pretty cool to be fair. And yeah re: objects, the PLUS cover looks a bit less garish on the physical copy.

I wouldn't call him a hack, some of the tDR Autechre artwork is pretty great. Chiastic Slide in particular. Got a soft spot for the Oversteps and Exai vinyl boxes as well.

Yeah hack was a bit harsh I guess, it's pretty hit and miss though you gotta admit... the elseq art is an abomination. Quadrange with the squares was a joke. Considering what was used for AE_LIVE this should be a no brainer. I can't remember what was on onesix... faded grey bean shapes?  I mean, who cares? Just put out the music already.
Maybe he's cracking under the pressure now that Sean leaked this info - we know it's all up to Ian now and he's going mad in his studio trying to decide circle or square, black or grey...

    lovely voice

I knew this version before I ever heard the original. This is quite a bit better, isn't it :duckhunt:

On that note I think most of the covers I like are ones where I didn't know the original. A good cover of a song I already know and love is pretty hard to achieve.

The Aphex attitude has to go ....

It's all in good fun :emotawesomepm9:

Besides I think aphex can afford a little criticism no? It's not like we're picking on some underdog lol

Back to original subject: Seriously how ridiculous is it that this release is being held up by some hack's mediocre "artwork" now? Imagine being this Ian guy.  Just pick a colour and give it a tri rep treatment and get on with it lol

absolutely surreal this show is still going... yeah don't torture yourself watching bad tv. I've tried watching Simpsons a few times probably over the past 15 years, and didn't last more than a few minutes. just can't do it. even some of the '90s classics have lost some of their appeal at this point. although the Halloween specials still hit hard on the nostalgia factor.

I wanted to do it like research I guess, since yes indeed it really is baffling that they are still going. It actually seems like it's entirely an act of defiance at this point. It's just garbage television, only using beloved characters from long ago... major cognitive dissonance watching this shit.

Also by s29 or so Julie Kavner's voice has aged noticeably so Marge sounds different and it's just weird. Don't these people have enough money yet?

  8. A lot of the time with Ae it's because there is an underlying pattern or structure that's buried under a bunch of other stuff that obscures it at first. Sometimes the most prominent element of the track is all over the place, and the structural component only becomes more obvious with familiarity with the chaotic/confusing part. I'm thinking of osla for n, for example.

Growing familiarity with the confusing elements leads to recognition of underlying structure. The hi hats are swingin in 4/4 the whole time.

Also sometimes it's just a rhythmic thing. It can be hard to find "1" in some really syncopated beats especially if 1 is never explicitly given in the first place (some Barker tracks drove me nuts for this reason), and then it "clicks" when you finally establish where 1 is (or realize 1 is actually somewhere different than you've been counting it :whistling:)

Or when you learn to count something in a strange meter (see jazz).

What are some songs/tracks that clicked for you, to be more specific? Interesting topic :watmm:

It got bad, then sorta good again, then really bad, and now it's still bad and I think I still have like 4 more seasons to go? :catsuicide:

Halfway through Season 30 and I am throwing in the towel. Can't do any more. I really wanted to be able to see it through til the end but yeah, that's just how bad it is.  [Simpsons]
