Funny, just finished Slaughterhouse V. Heard such great things about it for years, finally decided to pick it up.

I .... don't know what I was expecting. Somehow in my mind it was going to be a "jolly good, mind bending sci-fi time travel romp" and uhhhhhhh it turns out the guy who writes back of the book synopses for books I've never actually read got it way wrong.

Fantastic, but really gut wrenching. Probably the best anti war novel I've ever read. On par with Requiem for a Dream as being the best anti drug movie I've ever seen, and vaguely The Jungle being the best anti meat book I've ever read. By which, I mean, all of these make me never want to fight in a war, do heroin, or eat meat, respectively.

It also made me think about the horrors that are going on in Ukraine right now. It's like... fuck, human beings never really change do they? I know that's cynical but. ... oof.

On the flipside it also made me really grateful to just exist in a non-war state. Like, it does such a good job of evoking the numbing claustrophobia of war and PTSD that simple things like crapping in a toilet suddenly seem like a godsend.

1 lovable scamps / innumerable moments of existential dread

Yeah i started it just before the war in Ukraine started.

It kinda hit even more when there is a war going on. The tragedy of it, the absurdity, the foolishness of men.

Makes you cry and laugh at the same time.

    It's a beautiful book.

also this is worth a watch:

same. it'll be bleep only for me then. but there's lot's of good indie stuff on bandcamp that i've bought that isn't available anywhere else.. can't see them killing downloads on bandcamp. it'd be the end of them.

If they have a plan to just kill it and make it something else tho?

would be fucking devilish thing to do but youre talking about bigshots here... gosh it would be horrible

Like you say there is loads and loads of DIY/indie obscure stuff in all genra only available there.

Can they even change it when there's been loads of people who purchased the right to download in a way?

    Good question.

Wonder if they fuck enough with the terms of use...

I  really hope it never happens.

They must keep the downloading system, otherwise it would not make sense for me. I'm an oldschool ha.org/fb2k/tagging/converting/collecting/flac/lame/youknowwhat veteran.

    +1000

I personally download everything as well. FLAC quality baby. Fuck streaming quality. And yes it does make a difference when you experience music. Sound quality is important.

Itunes, spotify, soundcloud and co. with their damn low ass mp3 quality are a disgrace imho...if bandcamp becomes just another streaming app it would be a disaster.

If they remove the download system they kill bandcamp plain and simple for me.

Without downloads its not bandcamp anymore. And it would basically send everyone or at least a lot of people just back to soulseek in one move. I sure hope it will NEVER ever ever end up like this. It would be the biggest lost for indie music.

    " a fucking disaster"

your hilarious. literally everyone who gets that variant have barely any symptoms.

natural immunity will be acquired much better with this new variant.

    your really a male karen

People get reinfected with this new variant. The immunity is waning. If you dont stop contagion people get reinfected again and again. Its been proven it damages organ on each infection, including the brain.

Im on day 12 into symptoms am now negative but i nearly fainted by cleaning my room for 30 mins. I got hit pretty bad by this. Now i just hope i dont get long covid.

Call me a Karen if you wish but there is a pandemic out there if you wish to keep your head in the sand its your call.

People did the same during the russian epidemics, spanish flu and smallpox epidemics. Wasnt a good idea.

  6. There is something truly disturbing about being able to witness war and war crimes happening in real time and have daily reports in video and photography. It is surreal. Yet also directly all too real.

It's like watching a live stream out of Ed Gein basement.

There was a video i saw, of a man running in the city after the bombing, with corpses and blood everywhere and there was  a woman screaming in horror.

I never heard such a scream ever before in my life and i will never forget it.

Since then ive been trying to limit the intake of such images because i still want to keep faith in humanity. Shit just shakes me to my core. The extent of the evil human beings are capable of is terrifying.

oof. shit is grim. go leafs?

cases are still low here in portland. i'm still wearing a mask when i go out. went to an unmasked get together at friend's place where about 8 people were there. all vax'd. that was about 2 weeks ago i think?

lot's of people dropping masking wearing here. many still wearing them. seems inevitable that infections will spike again. fingers crossed we dodge the bullet.

you still feeling like shit? test negative yet?

    Hey mate,

Feeling alright myself now. Symptoms are nearly gone. I am waiting until friday to break isolation to complete a 10 days quarantine. Will test then but i have hope im gonna be negative.

Yeah new variant now too lol... im not very optimistic.

I have loads of friends getting it all over the place, in Canada, UK, Europe.
