  1. Hey old watmm friends,

I put together a short little album, Teneral. It's really my first try at this.

A bit of background:  My only "official" release prior to this has been one track ("scarpfall") on watmm's own Tribute to Olympus Mons project from 2015.  That happened shortly after I started tinkering around with making noises on my computer. Lots of screwing around in Reaktor after grabbing it at a steep discount.  There's some stuff on this first album that dates from around then; usually with some new structural elements re-contextualizing drones and noisy things that were recorded years before.  There's also a bunch of stuff that was created in 2020-2021.

Lots of Reaktor and various other softsynths on this, but also some obnoxious fun (I hope ?) with a Volca FM and a Model:Samples.

There's admittedly a lot of me learning by failing on this -- and I hope the mix and "mastering" aren't too rough on your ears -- but I genuinely like how the thing fits together.  I'd make some very different decisions next time around, but hopefully there's some charm in this as it is.

I'd love it if some of you could give it a listen.  Thanks!

  2. I’m about a quarter of the way through Alan Moore’s Jerusalem after 2 years of staring at its cover on the shelf, and then moving it to the nightstand in an effort to commit myself to the task, and then staring at it for another 6 months without starting it.

And it turns out it’s a fairly pleasant experience after all, so far, despite the wrist cracking weight of the thing.

Every couple years I forget that I just can’t with Ghost, and then I hear this song. Sounds like Lars Ulrich on drums and Weird Al on vox.

I could probably live with the Al, but not the Lars.

Of course I mean no offense; merely that I have not developed the palate for this particular fromage selection.

Signed up to Disney for that Beatles horseshit that I won’t be finishing. Along with The Beatles another big name that brings out the cynical grumpy toad in me is anything Star Wars post Return of the Jedi. However, unexpectedly I’m enjoying The Mandalorian.

Also next week is the final week of Masterchef ?

Mando is decent.  Loki is pretty deece, too: I just pretended it was a big budget Doctor Who with nice set design.

I could maybe stomach Ringo and George chatting for a few hours, but I don't think I can watch anything that has more than two minutes of Paul in it.  JUST IN MY IMO

edit: currently watching The Great on hulu; it's pretty funny tbqh

  5. McD’s makes me feel really bad for the cows, to be honest. Like, I’m not vegan or vegetarian but imagine being a cool and sensitive creature like a cow and then dying to become food and you’re thinking hey I’m a cow so at least I’ll be turned into something truly exceptional and delicious but you end up as some dry grey flavorless slab at a macadonaru’s and get scarfed down by some sad fuck who feels absolutely nothing but burgeoning regret.  I can think of nothing worse except maybe if the sad fuck also dips you in ranch dressing in search of lost flavor.

  6. I just watched Mr. Inbetween and something about the balance between the naturalistic “shooting the shit” scenes and Sudden Violence shoehorned into a 30 minute format gave it a nice surreal vibe, similar to what Louie could have been like if Louie killed people instead of just beating his meat in front of an unwilling audience. They kind of marketed it as Australian Breaking Bad but it should have been marketed as Australian Louie with 2% less jokes about cumming (there are still a lot of jokes about cumming).

Some surprisingly good acting.  I hope Scott Ryan gets some more work (and doesn’t jerk off in front of anyone).

  7. I haven’t been able to find a good (sustainable) job since 2014. I’m overqualified or under-qualified for everything.  I have a law degree from a top 20ish law school and it’s useless, but on the plus side it put me seemingly insurmountable debt.

Maybe I just actually suck at everything.  Hard not to feel like giving up most days, at this point.

There’s a weird swelling on my cat’s abdomen and he’s almost 12 and I really need to have my little buddy around.
