  1. damn, this is great stuff! incredible sense of texture & detail in your music. really well recorded & mastered. some of the most 'tactile' sounding tracks i've heard, if that makes sense.
  2. Is it just trig conditions that they've announced? Wonder if any MKI users just getting the MKII are noticing anything else new. the MKII manual is online. it details how the trig conditions are implemented in the OS. other than the obvious hardware changes i haven't seen any other new features mentioned yet. i'm warming up to the new hardware a bit just for the practicality of it. the backlit buttons would be much easier to use in a dimly lit / live setting. the new buttons they added will speed up navigation & eliminate some of the key combos. screen refresh rate is quicker with the OLED ( even tho the screen is physically smaller than the MKI ). still i prefer the look of the MKI. maybe will pick up a used MKII in a year or so. i've heard those new style knobs can be a pain, tho. difficult to dial in precise values. can any Digitakt users confirm?
  3. i bet they're gonna hold the new MK1 os back for a week or 2 so that the MK2s get the spotlight. still checking the downloads section every hour or so. want the trig conditions so bad.
  4. nah, steely dan are cool. real new york characters. east coast all the way. smart, sarcastic, witty as hell and their lyrics reflect that. they named their band after a vibrator for gods sake. legendary studio obsessives. there's some cool videos on youtube of them going over the Aja multitracks and talking about how they were made. really interesting to watch even if your not into the band. i can't call myself the biggest steely dan fan but i have a lot of respect for them. never sold out. never lost their edge. Aja is a masterpiece for sure. every time i hear their music i picture a city at night. rip walter becker.
  5. DAMN! this is huge. can't wait for this to drop for the MK1! my #1 Octatrack request. i've been faking this with LFOs but this feature will free those up for other things. ...and to think that Elektron has said on more than one occasion that this feature would never come to the Octatrack.
  6. Lynch, you crafty devil. this is actually pretty amazing: https://www.reddit.com/r/twinpeaks/comments/6tllwa/s3e14_a_certain_cafe/ i swear he's going to break the 4th wall by the end of this season.
  7. she's been in a coma since the season 2 bank blast i'll bet. notice how there was no modern technology in her scenes. rotary phone, etc...
  8. i have a feeling that first scene of the episode 1 (coop talking to the giant) is going to end up being the last scene of the season (chronologically).
  9. this sounds fantastic! i'm hearing a lot of familiar sounds & effect tricks, but it's all been given a whole new character by the dude mixer. everything has been given more body, impact, and kind of a rich burbly distorted edge that sounds great.
  10. kinda reminds me of Vince Vaughn in True Detective season 2. when i heard Vaughn was cast in that i thought "aw hell nah..." but he knocked it out of the park. the Twin Peaks gangsters are supposed to be part menacing and part comical, so i think it works.
  11. this post is really hot. am i in the pron thread?
  12. this is really good! for those getting bored with the monomachine, nothing wrong with putting it on the shelf for a few months. i've done that before. then come back to it with fresh ears & ideas or just a different headspace. sometimes it helps to use it in a way you're not used to. i spent a couple of months just using it in poly mode without the sequencer running. no parameter locks. just making complex drones using one machine at a time playing chords. i'd spend hours tweaking each sound. great way to learn all of the machines and build up a little library of patches to use later. in the end it's not a good idea to rely too heavily on any one piece of kit in my opinion. you might end up getting bored, burnt out, or just disappointed with the kit in question. better to rotate things around a bit and keep it fresh.
  13. re: the new mk2s. i'm all about stark minimal interfaces but this new look is terrible. just really uninspiring. a boring and soul killing corporate look. like sitting in a cubicle and staring at a spreadsheet app for 8 hours. + these new ones are HUGE : on the upside, this is a great time to pick up the black mk1s used. prices are about to drop like a rock!
  14. exactly this. all these people clamoring for streaming each track out of their elektrons into separate tracks in a DAW so they can work on them further... they're just postponing decision making. fear of commitment. get it right in the machine. balance, eq, all of it. you have so much control over the params in elektron kit. there's no excuses. get it right & then just record it. stereo mix. done. of course you could fiddle with each track and each sound until the end of time if you wanted to. and then nothing would ever get finished. overbridge sucks. totally at odds with the whole original philosophy of that company & their hardware.
  15. damn. this is seriously underwhelming. in terms of looks, there's a fine line between austere & bland, and Elektron have definitely crossed over into bland territory. i get depressed just looking at that thing. the original Octatrack is way cooler looking. black & red. can't beat that color combo. i hate the way they shifted the cursor keys over to the left. ruins the nice alignment of the layout & really increases your chances of hitting the 'exit/no' key accidentally when you hit the left arrow. Digitakt buttons look fugly on this. sorry. those big light up numbers ( with the exact same numbers printed on the case right under them. lol! ) makes this look like a toy. +bonus lol @ the hi rez OLED screen displaying the old school low rez pixelated interface. i really don't get the point of going thru all the trouble of updating the casing with a new screen, encoders, and even adding extra buttons (which is no small amount of work) and then NOT updating the internals or the OS. seriously wtf?! this was the perfect time. good news: i don't have to spend money on this. bad news: gonna be another 3 or 4 years at least before we see a real OT2 with trig conditions, etc... here's hoping someone reverse engineers the OS so we can hack the OT JJOS style!
  16. i really hope this is true! been waiting for this forever. octatrack is my main rig. a mk2 is inevitable at some point. the octatrack remains a very popular machine for Elektron and yet is the only one without overbridge. the fact that Juno refers to it as a mk2 and shows a slightly higher price than normal leads me to believe this is legit. overbridge enabled: 100% chance trig conditions: 100% chance OLED screen: normally i would say no, but given the price increase: 70% chance new effects: 40% chance better time stretch algorithm: god i hope so. analog filters/overdrive: 0% chance could care less about overbridge, but trig conditions? yes please.
  17. A Matrix 1000 with the latest hacked firmware and the Alpes Machines controller is my main analog synth these days. Great, distinctive sound, different from other DCO synths I've used. Something cold about it, but in a good way. never heard of the Alpes controller before. very cool. how much do those sell for? on the site, it looks like he is getting ready to do another run of them but he has taken his shop offline. i don't see any mention of a price.
  18. i think they will do 5 seasons and it will be Vince Gilligan's decision to stop at that point. I'm sure he had the whole thing loosely mapped out before he started.
  19. loll that's exactly how i've been watching this. lights off headphones on. the sound design on this is so good and there are so many little details & textures to pick up on. Lynch has been heavy into that since day 1.
  20. A4 is on my list for sure. a lot of really cool Elektron features brought into the analog realm for the first time. plus it seems like the perfect hub for building a very small modular system using its cv capabilities. i would never be able to afford building a big modular rig, but the A4 would be a great way to incorporate a few choice experimental modules ( like the MakeNoise or Mutable Instruments stuff ) to really expand your sonic palette. In the meantime, i scored a mint condition Oberheim Matrix 1000 off of ebay the other week. Really amazing sounding synth & one of the last affordable analog polys. a ton of these were manufactured back in the day so they're still relatively easy to find used. going thru the presets really takes you to another era. not my vid but this gives you an idea of some of its sound capabilities:
  21. well... elektron gear could stand to be improved just like anything else. it still pisses me off that the octatrack can't do event mute, only audio mute. you also can't change to a new sequence mid-sequence & keep your place (the sequence always resets to the beginning when you switch). but yeah, if elektron kit became do-it-all machines, they wouldn't be elektron kit anymore. i like the focused feature set.
  22. i dunno. what's the opposite of "option paralysis"?
  23. i think it's amazing that Lynch is still producing something this intense at the age of 71. whatever strange source of inspiration he has been in touch with throughout his career, he is definitely still tapped into it. if anything, it is even more focused and refined now. i doubt we'll ever see anything this experimental on a major television network with this sort of budget ever again.
