  1. Something's wrong with the brakes on my car...

I was out running a couple errands today, driving it for the first time in weeks since I don't have to drive to work anymore. Got 2 of my errands done but on the way to my 3rd errand the brake warning light came on, and I had to stop way in advance, and slam the pedal all the way down... Put the hazard lights on, but was still kinda nervous driving home, afraid the brakes were gonna go out on me completely or that'd someone would cut me off and I'd have to unsuccessfully make a quick stop. Fortunately, I got home without any incident.

Not sure what the hell's wrong, brakes were fine the last time I was driving, or so I thought.... Not looking forward to finding out and  coughing up to get it fixed.

  2. Had this beauty on Saturday at a local place called Sweet Pea's that's right down the street from my place:

    • Beer Cheese Lucy

Stuffed with our creamy, house-made beer cheese sauce, featuring Grain Belt Premium, and served on a pretzel bun. Topped with bacon, bistro sauce, haystack onions, and a slice of habanero jack

    It was fucking glorious....

For those that don't know, a "Jucy Lucy" is a burger with cheese stuffed in the middle that gets all melty and delicious when cooked right, it was invented here in Minnesota, although which restaurant did it first is a hot debate around here... Either way there's a few places around here that do it damn well and go beyond the basic Lucy these days, regardless of wether or not they're the originators.

  3. I've been trying to give a rest from the endless stacks of comics and graphic novels I tend to read and do some actual reading lately... Currently reading Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, enjoying it a lot so far. McCarthy definitely has a knack for creating atmosphere with his visual choices of words.

Also picked up Neil Gaiman's American Gods which I plan to read next.

  4. Earth is fuckin' great. Saw them in a smaller venue last Fall and it was awesome... I was supposed to see them again with Boris playing the Pink anniversary tour over the Winter but one of the two shows that got cancelled the whole tour had to be Minneapolis because Atsuo got sick (still pretty fucking bummed about that, I hope they come back)... Anyways... The recent collab album with The Bug is pretty good shit.

Also... NEW ELDER OUT TODAY! So fucking good!

  5. Tekken 7 looks sweet, but I'm caught up in Injustice 2 at the moment... trying to master 2 fighting games at once would be too much. That said, Injustice 2 is a HUGE improvement over the 1st, The Multiverses, guilds, and customization are pretty cool... But, fuck anyone who uses Black Adam or Dr. Fate, spammy motherfuckers.

  6. Finished Beyond: Two Souls. Ellen Page cries a lot/10.

That game was terrible, it's boring as hell, nothing you do or don't do matters (you can still win the game not pressing a single button during the QTE's) and Page's character just annoyed me all game. I even enjoyed Heavy Rain, but man Beyond: Two Souls is one of the worst games I've ever played.

About to dive into Injustice 2, traded in Mass Effect: Andromeda after realizing I wasn't gonna finish it (sorry Foil )

  7. Survived the first day of my internship despite having to struggle to figure out how to get the mega-shitty Word 2010 on Windows to do the shit I learned how to do in the 2016 version in MacOS... Also probably could have just done it in InDesign but they don't have Creative Suite installed on my computer yet. Fortunately, I don't expect to have to deal with Word too much for what I'll be doing a lot of once I settle in.

  8. I'm not exactly clear on what Hauntology is or isn't... but I love just about anything spooky vibed, (huh.. ghosty, who woulda thought?) and also a fan of all the stuff Rubin mentioned in the original post...

You guys would dig this,  just discovered this within the hour through a bandcamp article about what they're calling "haunted folk"...

Klaus Morlock - Bethany's Cradle (original soundtrack)
    https://klausmorlock.bandcamp.com/album/bethanys-cradle-original-soundtrack

Soundtrack to an abandoned 70's horror film that production was never completed on...it's a free download. I'm currently listening and it's pretty great stuff.

and here's the full article for anyone interested, seems to be a bunch stuff worth checking out in it:

EDIT: damn didn't see the article was already mentioned... but yeah anyway this shit's good.

  9. Post-FCBD 17 Update:

Got pretty much all the freebies I wanted, including a taste Jordowski & Moebius' The Inca. I've been curious about reading more of both so looking forward to reading that one. A bunch of pretty good looking and unique freebies this year. In addition to the freebies this was my haul I gathered from visiting 3 different shops.

  10. Free Comic Book Day 2017 is tomorrow!

Goiing out to hit up a few shops for freebies and look for deals on things I wanna read... Started up East of West recently, finished vol. 3, need to pick up 4 and maybe 5 tomorrow. Also been making my way through the Spawn origins collections. Also been keeping current with Ed Brubaker's Kill or Be Killed.

Wife also said she'd give me an additional budget she'd spend on comics for me as a belated b-day present.. We'll see what I end up grabbing.
