  1. not to be a huge downer or anything but it makes me wonder if these are the 'best' tracks from the album and that's why they were chosen for radio play, while they are good tracks they aren't blowing my mind as much as the stuff i remember coming out early for Quaristice. I remember Simm being one of the earliest tracks from Quaristice to leak, and it's definitely one of the album's highlights, while great tracks like the Plc and Chenc9 were never broadcast before it came out.

edit: but at the same time 'see on see' was the first track from Oversteps to leak and imo it's one of the least interesting from the album

methinks tuinorizn could've been the most 'agreeable' track for the mix, as it blends pretty well w/the preceding and succeeding tracks. there are probably many less 'palatable' tracks on the album.

  2. How bout a review of "bladelores" ?

Like the funky drummer break slowed down about 10 times until it's just this humungous unrelenting thwack echoing into a bottomless chasm. Dirty, gritty little acid squiggles weave around the beat and after a while these great plumes of almost trancey/housey chords start breaking through like the sun coming up on a sodden morning. It's actually a really beautiful piece of music in the same way that Cichli or Garbagemx36 start out quite ugly and malformed but slowly form into a cohesive something or other. Of course as soon as you think everything's going to go full on chorale bliss, Ae pull it all back under and it's back into the boggy marsh, before repeating the whole trick again except this time we're treated to an extended outro of washy church-like organ chords.

  3. That, and you need a pretty nice turntable/cartridge/stereo setup for crystalline sound.

    nope.

point me in the direction of a modestly priced, quality turntable. please

The American Audio TTD 2400 is a direct drive turntable that costs roughly 100$. That's the best price/quality ratio I've seen so far. Was planning on buying one+the Exai LP on march (unused christmas money) but I don't know whether that's a good placement lol

    thank you

  4. Does anyone actually care that the vinyl is "Housed in a rigid slipcase wrapped in Cairn Eco Kraft stock with clear foil block to front"?

Bleep/Warp always make a big deal of telling us when releases have special grade packaging (the first Warp Brian Eno release really made me lol hard), although I am guessing the niche audience of audiophile's may also harbour some cartophile's who jizz hard over the quality of printing. Guessing it is down to TDR at the end of the day, and Warp decide what price to slap on it.

If my new autechre album came encased in a wheel of cheddar I would be just as happy.

people care about this (superfluous) shit, still. it's like decor for your living room. need something to fetishize, the audio ain't enough

  5. the latter part of 'the trees' really perked up my ears.. the way the beat and the various sounds create a sort of negative space, framing ghost sounds somehow. maybe it's just compression. i get a a lot of smoke/smoldery imagery from that track, as it develops. and the decrepit "melody"

  6. Interesting fact about Washing Machine is that there is no bass on 8 or 9 songs.

though some of the songs feature guitars that have all strings tuned to the same pitch.

very spacious, well-produced album. exp jet set - washing machine - thousand leaves are golden

  7. oversteps, to me, has the least 'depth' of their last 5-6 albums. Treale's monotonous beat is a huge turnoff (doesn't go ANYWHERE, similar to that of RALE's throwaway beat).. qplay is an odd one.. track sets up w/a nice atmosphere and good sounds, but it doesn't MOVE. the percussion elements lack any sense of propulsion -- it feels like a static ambient track with "beats." highlights for me are r ess, pt2ph8, os veix3, and d sho qub. a lot of the rest just feels like a setup for thin, aimless atmospheres. It's a baffling album, and as eugene says, I keep returning to it with hopes of taking something away.

  8. i think if this album came out with 'AFX' stamped on the front of it most of the haterz here would be all over it saying how fucking good it was - best album of 2011, guyz! yeah! AFX did it again guyzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!! lol

    yeah, no

'hot 32 day' (last track) is pretty dope.

just fyi, i'm not saying it's the best album of the year. what i meant was that that's what all the Tuss and Aphex obsessives would be saying if it had 'AFX' written on the front cover instead of "Dave Monolith".

i disagree. while i've been enjoying 'welcome' well enough, it sounds inferior (sound quality, etc.) to the tuss albums. if it were indeed AFX, i think "obsessives" would consider it a lesser piece of work? listening back to fredugolon 6, there's just more weight, texture, and imperfection to the sounds/arrangements. the monolith stuff has a level of polish where the sounds don't seem to breathe with the nuance and dynamic range as the those on rushup and confederation.
