Got a new synth

BCM

Recommended Posts

Recently bought an Alesis Micron and have been tinkering about with it and made these quick tunes. Check em out!

(feel free to criticize as they are a bit rough - Heridatament is probably the most "finished" - bit of a taste of material to come I guess)

Guest feta lol

whyd you get the micron when you could have gotten the microkorg?

1st song- not my thing, but it sounds really clean.

2nd song- not quite finished, but it's on the right path

3rd song- more reverb and a minimal beat and you got a casino vs japan song

fuck the microkorg - i don't rate them really....

Alesis Micron is cheaper (than the new MicroKorgX or whatever it's called) and sounds much better IMO and most "respected" peoples too. Check out some on line reviews if your interested....

+ Micron has internal sequencer and rhythm section and features the same synth engine as the Alesis Ion which is a bloody good one and not sample based analogue modelling.

anyway - cheers for listening and the comments!

thanks syntheme *feels dead guilty now* - er they are multi tracked coz i love my multitracker, but the micron is also multitimbral, and has the built in sequencer - you can split the keyboard three ways so you've got drum loops at the bottom, bass in the middle and lead at the top etc, so really good for playing live. oi loove eht.

song 1: feels really good, and there is a lot of depth to the harsher noises, which gives it a good edge. i think the percussion could be beefier to make this more exciting. i also would be happier with more variation. good track, i like it.

song 2: i'd reign the bass in a bit in the beginning. when the song starts to open up, i start to really like it, and that heavy kick adds a great overall tone. i like how the synth progression leaves notes hanging and then picks up again, i like the way that moves the track. i don't like the pad sound very much, it sounds too far away from the rest of the track, but i like the tone and the sequencing... it comes in at the right time (actually, it doesn't really sound like a pad, but it adds that kind of texture when it comes in). i like the way this song progresses quite a bit. i think with some work it could be a great track.

song 3: long day at work and this one makes me feel sleepy in a good way.

nice work on these.

I used to have one of those diddlies. I just called it the space rock machine and used to jam on it. Don't have it anymore though.

i guess i just hate alesis. theyve had quality issues in the past. they also seem to never come out with new ideas and just mimick whatever else is out there. i also had to deal with the alesis sales rep quite a bit at my old job and he was a total snakeoil salesman.

Like Sound on Sound! The magazine that has never said a bad thing about any piece of musical equipment, ever!

KB Toys Plastic Kazoo:

Pros:

  • Distinctive Sound
  • Colorful Design and Packaging
  • Unique "touchless" pitch control
  • Value
Cons:
  • Somewhat limited in sonic scope
  • Not for everybody
Conclusion:

The KB Toys Plastic Kazoo is a must have instrument for any producer wishing to expand his or her sonic arsenal with a truly unique piece of kit at an attractive price.

i just meant that it had got good reviews in yes, SOS and Future Music and various music equipment websites where they'd compared it to other similar gear of the same sort of price. that's why i put the inverted commas in coz i realise a lot of what they say is probably bollocks. was just trying to justify why I got a micron and not a microkorg and illustrating that various industry magazines etc also thought it was better.

I read a copy of future music yesterday in Barnes & Noble while I was having coffee and I counted at least 4 factual errors. SoS is great for tutorials and the synth secrets type stuff but seriously I have been getting it for 3 years and I have never read a bad review of anything. Anything. Ever. None of these mag reviews can be taken seriously anymore at all. I don't really care about the Microkorg or Micron one way or another just talking about how gear reviews have become completely irrelevant.

Plus cmon, unique touchless interface was pretty good.
