What do you guys usually say when people ask what you listen to? I usually just say experimental electronic. Guest chax Posted March 28, 2009 Share Posted March 28, 2009 when i describe what i listen to, i say it's more 'alternative electronic music' whereas it's not techno, house, dance, drum'n'bass, etc. then i let him listen to some tracks off my ipod nano if i were to rename the genre i'd call it ELM - Electronic Listening Music when I read/say IDM in person though I never say what the acronym stands for, it's meaningless to me its just the letters IDM I don't read the actual definition Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I say "yes," because I do listen to techno. most people have no clue about the difference between trance (ugh), techno, jungle, etc. so what's the point in being more specific? Guest chax Posted March 28, 2009 Share Posted March 28, 2009 I dont think I've had a conversation that weak where people have to say "what kind of music do you listen to?" in ages. i have this conversation every few days, and i still don't belive people are fully understanding what i try to explain the music is like to them. it's difficult to describe certain types of music in general terms, IDM is something that actually surpasses a lot of regular conventions, so it's difficult to describe. there's also a lot of pretensiousness involved with music and 'scenes'. i'm just glad IDM heads aren't pressured to fit into some kind of alternative image/style in order to be 'with it'. well except for northface Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
