I point out the failings of myspace. It pisses me off that they tout good policies but the blatant corporate interests are just leading the path to god knows what effect they are having (such as those models, dietary pills etc).

CLearly they are bowing down to advertisers and it just pisses me off that the ads are getting worse.

oh fuck off, it's the internet, any 13 year old will just type HOT PORN into google and have a field day. porn has always been everywhere always.

they don't even need to type it and they'll get that.

oh and girls who aren't interested in seeing older skinny women or paranoid about their self image will certainly be after seeing those anorexic women and the dietary pills.

what if a naturally skinny girl reads your posts, gets 'paranoid about their self image' or worried/guilty about the possible harmful influence her appearance could have on others, so starts binge eating and then chokes on some food?

I'm glad that you know exactly how all women feel, how's that working out for you?

Incidentally, what effect do you think threads like "how to tell if you are talking to a fat girl on myspace" or whatever might have on a girl's self-image?

WE ARE AT THE CROSSROADS TO HELL GENTLEMEN

and only those who choose christ will find their way down the righteous path and away from messaien's avatars

Dude (joshier), these things exist because there is a demand for them. Young people want to see this kind of thing on the internet. It is not the case that you have a bunch of blank children who get unwittingly corrupted by the evil force of capitalism/the internet/large corporations. People actually want to see this kind of thing.

I'm not saying that people aren't psychologically altered by the media. Obviously what you see on the internet/TV influences you to a good extent. But what I am saying, is that you cannot simply remove everything you don't approve of to make a perfect Utopian society. There is a demand for this kind of thing ingrained in humans, and so if you get rid of it, it will just spring back up again. If you want to make a Utopian society absent of body image problems and unwanted pregnancies, you have to change the actual humans in the world. They are the ones making this stuff, they are the ones who want it. All this bullshit sociology is missing the whole point. The media doesn't corrupt innocent people; people make the media.

That said, I don't think the world would be better if there were none of this on myspace. I think the world would be better if people cared less about what's on myspace. Critical thinking is the key, not sheltering.
