best frozen pizza?

now that i no longer live in the pizza mecca of the US (new haven, ct), there is not much of a point for me to frequent the lion's share of pizzerias here in denver. the quality and pride demonstrated by the pizza places here is just not worth my time and money. consequently i've taken a means to an end approach to pizza, which has led me squarely in front of the frozen pizza section of my supermarket. last night I came to the conclusion that Red Baron Stone Hearth® Fire-Baked Crust© (shown below) is the best frozen pizza.

This can be acquired from Target for something in the neighborhood of 3 dollars. For twice the price you can pull the trigger on a digiorno or freschetta and get completely fucked up pizzas with fucked up cakey crusts (or try their thin crust and get far less than what is enough to feed a family of 2)...

At the same price point we have Tombstone which, though a good value, comes up a little short when compared to Red Baron Stone Hearth® Fire-Baked Crust©. Then below that we have Totinos which is for drunk people only. Those are the major ones I have tried in the past month, and it is my pleasure to announce that Red Baron Stone Hearth® Fire-Baked Crust© is the best. Feel free to share your input on frozen pizzas in this thread.

it's definitely the Palermos Rustico line of frozen pizzas

like to the point where it shouldnt be even listed with frozen pizzas because they're in their own category. they're more expensive (around 7 bucks usually) but fucking AMAZING.

i usually don't like digiorno or freschetta, but i think each one has like one variety i've tried that i like. Digiorno has a pizza with a garlic bread type crust, and i think the freschetta brick oven pizzas are the ones i like.

there's also this brand that i think might just be one of the local super market's own brands, but if you see something along the lines of culinary counsel rising crust, that shits pretty decent too

fred please leave denver thx

having crap pizza is nothing to be ashamed of. denver has plenty to make up for it, like abundance of green chile. and premium access to colorado lamb.

have you visited any microbreweries?

i'd just like to throw Dr. Oetker into the mix. not that The Doctor's food is remotely edible, just that any food made by a doctor is pretty IDM.

yeah i'm heading towards the make my own pizza route but i've never rolled my own dough before so i need to do that and get a roller (superchef lol). boboli sucks as far as store-bought pizza crust is concerned

Haven't tried CPK's frozen pizzas yet but they're at the same price point as freschetta and digiorno so i'm already expecting a lot of bells and whistles and no actual delicious pizza.

Is there a Whole Foods near where you live, Fred? they sell pre-made pizza crusts, and I have always had good success in making homemade pizzas with theirs. Lots of tasty flavour combinations, too.

Oh, I'd like to add that Target's Archer Farms house brand of frozen pizzas are especially good, IMO.

In fact, it gets a lot of praise on this site: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/437123

I've had this one, and I was surprised at the quality of the fresh mozzarella:

Cedarlane has good frozen burritos and mexican dishes, Ive noticed. I like Amy's too, but Cedarlane's usually cheaper. Try an Amy's pizza.

By far my favourite frozen pizza make too. My fave being Pollo, and undercooked (by the cooking guidelines anyway) by a couple of minutes
